What drugs are preferable for blood pressure reduction in patients in
1.Pregnancy

2.African Americans

3.Diabetes mellitis

4.Hyperlipidemic

5.Obstructive airway disease

6.post mi

7.recurrent stoke

8. hypertensive emergency or malignant hyprtension

Ill do 2: African Americans Ace inhibitors and /or HCTZ, Angiotensen receptor blockers,etc

Mal. HTN- diazoxide or Sodium Nitroprusside, possibly Lasix!

hi mjl1717 african americans have shown decreases mortalitiy and morbidity with diuretics so they should be the drug of choice here.

for malignant hypertensionnod
and also hydralazne. DOC is nitroprusside

pregnancy- alpha methyldopa, hydralazine

DM- ACE-I

Hyperlipidemics- alpha blockers, ACE-I

Post-MI- propranolol

Recurrent stroke- CCB, preferably nifedipine, decreases vasospasm

and for recurrent stoke diuretics and ace inh arerecommended.please dont ask me why.shaking head

Ok, but for African Americans Id be hesitant to give furosemide or bumetamide since their could be excess diuresis while driving and we aim for compliance..shocked

correction: Nimodipine (instead of nifedipine), in preventing vasospasm...used in hypertensive strokes.

how abt obstructive airway disease pts? CCBs?
