Anyone applied for radiology? WHat were your experiences?

  #2

did u apply.i think its a vvv competetive feild

  #3

very competitve... I think if you want it bad enough.. things will happen, you might have to sacrifice a few years though. So far my experience has been just a test of wits, when I have something more meaningful.. I'll let everyone know.

i was interested but did not apply...thought my scores were not high enough...but am still curious if any imgs have done it.....and if they would share their stories....

i came across a person at an interview.he got 5 interviews in radio.his credentials 99/99/2004 grad/green card/4months research in radio at univ of maryland

I know a about 3 fmg's who got a radiology position. Need high scores (amg's with less then 235 don't get many interviews, so fmg's need more), research helps, knowing someone in the program is probably the most important thing for an fmg, citizenship or GC helps but is not a definite must.

I'm an fmg and applied for this year's match. Tough but definitely doable.

is it impossible if an img doesnt have a green card?

  #8

Everything is possible.......if You have a green card, 99/99/passed/99/USCE/LOR/Research exp/2006 grad/Publications...etc etc........TOGETHERraised eyebrowconfusedshaking headdisapprovaldisapprovalmadshaking headraised eyebrow

hmmm if you have low scores a residency will really help. I have seen a lot of people do nucs and then get radiology. Personally, I would never do nucs, my plan was to go into neurology if i didn't get rads... and then maybe attack it from that angle.... I am sure if you do a medicine residency, plus get some rads research (nothing major, just something you can do during your residency) you should get some interviews. If you take a lot of radiology electives, you might even be eligible for an R2 (pgy3) position. I know someone who did nucs and got rads as an r2...

True, nothing is impossible in the U.S. I came across a person(IMG) who matched into radiology this year. That doc had scores like97/99 and most important( according to that person) was the LORs from US which was got after some 2 months of observership. No research and no other funda except these. He has matched in the same place where he did his observership, so i am not sure whether he knew the PD well before the interview or not. Not to worry even if there arent too many interview calls coz this person managed with just 2 interviews, sounds unbelievable but thats the truth!!!!!!!!!!
