i understood mutually exclusive & not mutually exclusive,understood independent evnts i did not understand nonindependent events ...can anybody explain ..thank u

  #2

independent is opposite of non independent (or dependent)event.

dependent or an event having some correlation need not be causative.

for example

in winter icecream sales go down and the no of homicides also go down because no one are roming out. these are nonindependent(that is dependent)

Thanks msyamp....could you pls briefly give an overview of the probability rules(plus how the terms mutually exclusive,nonexclusive,idependednt and nonindependent are diff from each other)...i have read them through from kaplan a couple of times...but every time its as if i have to start from scratch...would really appreciate it!

thanks but can u explain the example in kaplan notes of 5 whites,5 blacks & chance of picking 2 blacks is 5/10x4/9 how is that?? if so what is the chance of picking 3 blacks or 4 blacks...

thank u in advance.

let me help

when u have 10, 5 black and 5 white, and u pick the first one, the chance that it will be black will be 5 out of 10, now when u have picked the first one out u re now left with 9 options, so the chance that now u will pick out a black again is 4/9. 4 as u already picked one out of the 5 black balls, and 9 because u already picked out 1 out of the ten

oh! thank u so much that cleared my doubt

so the chance of picking 3 black is 5/10x4/9x3/8 am i right..please correct me if i'm wrong
