Hi, I'm studying for my step 1 and I began with biochemistry, AND I JUST HATE IT!!!!!!!! I already passed step 2 and I liked studying for it, most of the subjects were interesting, but I find biochemistry very hard and i just feel I'dont remeber anything of it. I motivate myself thinking that it's going to end soon and the next subject is going to be more interesting. So I was wondering, is biochemistry the most difficult or the most boring subject of the usmle step 1? What was the most interesting one for u? Sorry for my english, and good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!

biochemistry for step 1, I would say my night mare. I wouldn't be able to sleep or awake, I was quiet depressed while studying biochemistry. But, when I was done especially molecular biology, then I got grip on it, bcz their are very few concept and if you know it, you will never forget it. And thats why I use to revise biochemistry very fast. For pathways, what you can do, try to memorize it by writing it again again. Its interesting subject. You will do good, just keep on working hard.

Hi christianrs5, i also started with Bio chemistry as it was my favourite when I was in the first year 5 years back. But now I too hate it. I was bored with Kaplan and then I took Lippincott, which is familiar to me. Mal

I absolutely despise Biochem! Sure, it's interesting because it really explain a lot of stuff that we often dont know how they happen, but it is abitch reading through it...What i did was reward myself everyday i read a little bit, sort of a positive reinforcement! When you are doing genetics, go back to molecular, it will help a lot! Best of Lucks!

Well guys the best thing to do is to do what you feel best! (sounds redundant) But, its true do whatever makes you feel more confident .. I think lippincot is more info than what is really required for the USMLE.. That book is extensive, try doing something else.. Before anything, my worst background was biochem.. I practically knew nothing and I mean NOTHING about this subject before my review.. So this is my story I studied from kaplan and listened to lionel raymond´s lectures... I took lots of notes! I transcribed every little detail lionel raymond said that was not in the book.. This was time consuming thou, but far necessary.. I´d rather read my notes than read things directly from the book! And Ive seen the best results so far.. over 90% qbook high 80s to low 90s qbank.. Im really satysfied with my performance in this subject, and for me kaplan is the best source there is.. PD: All kaplan books are designed not to be read by themselves, but to be complemented by videos or live lectures (I didnt make this up you can check it at the prologue of biochem notes).. So if you try reading the notes only by themselves youre not getting full potential out of kaplan..

Well, ALL kaplan lecture videos are not legally for sale.. The only way to watch those videos legally is by paying kaplan $3300 for 3 a month access to their center .. Videos are ilegally sold at Ebay.. Wish I could help more, but theres nothing elese I can do or say...

I vote for micro!!!! or maybe anatomy - i absolutely cannot remember any anatomy...although i've gone thru the kaplan review book and i've done qbank 1.5 times now - i still have a hard time correlating questions in anatomy. they are always over my head. there are other topics i can muddle thru, but anatomy is pretty sucky anyone have a method to memorizing anatomy or microbio?
