A Corticosteroids

B Propranolol

C Propythiouracil

D T4

<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />E T3

I chose C, But Propythiouracil is safe to use in pregnancy. confused

question 2 ans is c

  #3

why the answer in the question 2 be D?

  #4

1 - E theophylline

2-c is right. Propylthiouracil is the best drug in preg in comparision to the others , but extension of its pharmacological actions will produce hypothyr symptoms in the neonate, and resultant increase in TSH. Ans cant be D cos T4 would produce a suppression of TSH in the baby, not an increase like the Q says.

I better b right in both- I have my exam next Friday shocked

hey i thought T3 increase by mother will cause failure of thyroid gland to develope in baby. and i think t3 is the active form that provides feedback to gland. id go with E.

You are right... PTU cannot cross placenta, so it's safe in pregnancy. T3 will suppress thyroid development in neonate.

T4 is active form in negative feedback though.

prylthiouracil does crossthe placenta and causes hypothyroidism in infant...
