Trying to know about you as a person, no medical q's. personal exp 2005 FP Baylor, Houston Two programs, northwest and kelsey. Started with meet and greet a day before at the hotel that was provided. Couple of residents of each program were present and the coordinators were also there. Dinner was for about 2 hours. The next day....a tour was given and 2 interviews were taken at both the programs. Questions were the usual..why fammed...questions from the C.V and personal statement. It was actually a great experience for a first interview.... 2005 FP Morehouse Pros:Regular interview Q. Pay for hotel. Good program. Makes you think it is a University program.Good faculty. Cons: Atlanta and traffic. Different sites for training. Low pay. Michel 2005 FP University of Illinois, Rockford main Track a really courteous program co-ordinator. the welcome at the hotel the previous day is simply awesome. there is a welcome kit waiting with all essentilas of the program and chocolate and coffee. that is followed by dinner with residents. really warm bunch of guys. can freely ask any qn. abt the program. the are is a small area and about 1 hr drive from o'hare chicago airport. the interview dayis really well organised with morning report. the swedish american hospital is really a quiet place. there is a lot of stress on the OB track in the FP program. do one must really mention it in the interview. the PD is a great guy. asks general qns about CAF. two faculty members then interviwewd followed by lunch at Olive Gardens. A great day. Bunky 2005 FP University of Nevada (Reno) Questions Regarding: Limtations of FP career, How will you manage cultural diff., most stressful time of life - how u managed it, sacrifices made in coming to USA, Lessons learnt from life exp., Why LORs were from IM faculty, why no FP Exposure. OBG-GYN rotations in 1st Year are supposed 2 b tough Read on Forum (IMG) 2005 FP University of South Florida-Morton Plant Mease Program You will be taken you out for a fantastic dinner on the night before the interview. You will get a chance to meet a lot of residents in a relaxed setting on the night of the dinner. The interview is the next day. No theoretical questions will be asked. A lot of general questions mainly to assess your dedication to Family Medicine and to see if you will be a good fit with their program. You will also get a chance to ask a lot of questions if you have any. Following the interview they will take you on a tour of the hospital and the clinic. Your stay in Clearwater during the interview will be arranged and paid for by the program. Overall its a great program with a very pleasant interviewing experience. Previous Interviewee 2005 FP University of Wyoming , Cheyenne great program, very nice and friendly people,no medical questions and they pay for everything from your hotel to airfare...highly recommended, No Visa Sponsorship though Alex 2005 IM Bronx-Lebanon, NY General Questions along with a interesting simple clinical case scenario at the end Word of Mouth... 2005 IM Coney island. Relaxed atmosphere. No medicine questions asked. They give a lot of prematches.Mostly the candidates are asked to decide there and then. patsy 2005 IM Cook County Interviewd by 2 attendings. Lots of general questions like personality, program, why IM, Experience, why should i take you, how do u feel about program, How is morning report... They are very friendly. I like the interview here. its a good community program but very busy Shiva 2005 IM Duke University Overall impression: INCREDIBLE PROGRAM Ranking among programs in country: Mass General, U Penn and Duke compete for the top three Internal Medicine residency programs in the country STRONG POINTS: 1. Amazing research- basic science/ clinical science research opportunities and facilities are abundant 2. resident autonomy 3. strong didactic curriculum 4. fellowship placement- any fellowship, any university 5. NO IMGs- important 6. training among the best medicine minds of the US- intense peer pressure 7. a PD willing to do anything for residents 8. a chairman who is so involved with resident education- chairman's rounds every week 9. accessible chairman- at the cafeteria, when I was with the Chief resident Ben Powers, the chairman walked across, the chief resident said Hi, and the Chairman introduced himself to me and spoke to us for a few minutes about the program and about Durham….doesn't happen often on the interview trail 10. the chairman is an IMG from Belgium 11. clinical epidemiology course for all residents 12. didactics on medico-legal issues, practice options etc. 13. sponsors only H1b visas > WEAKNESSES: 1. Overzealous PD 2. NO IMGs- sometimes can be a weakness 3. all other residents are rockstar" medical students as well 4. very big program 5. resident hierarchy- interns wear short coats and residents wear long coats We were taken to the attending rounds at the VA hospital, and I was amazed….a second year medical student made a presentation to the attending that literally blew me off my feat….the history, physical, labs, investigations, treatment plan and the ensuing discussion was handled in an awesome fashion by a second year medical student….even now, I doubt if I can make such a good presentation. As IMGs, we often make a comparision to AMGs, and a lot of IMGs in community hospitals and small university programs, live in the DELUSION that they are better than AMGs, you have to look at AMGs at medical schools at Duke, MGH, Cornell to see how good they are. AMGs at top medical schools rock!!!!!!! IM Elmhurst Program - Mount Sinai School of Medicine 2005 experience : 15-20 mins long. Simple Clinical Questions on DM, SABE - like action of hypoglycemic Drugs. Visas NOT sponsored Prematches - YES pasting from forum 2005 IM Fairview Hospital, Cleveland OH 2 people interviewed me. very nice people and friendly. both of these were associate program directors. questions like how did you hear about us?, why did you apply to us?, what will you do 5-10 years from now?, tell me about an interesting case that you encountered. it's a good program for those who are interested in primary care. fellowship yes you can get it if you have at least 1 research about the specialty of your choice. attended the grand rounds. the speaker was from cleveland clinic. there is also lots of teaching in this institution. stricly follows ACGME rules..lots of IMG's in the program..hospital is currently undergoing some renovations.. interviewee 2005 IM Geisinger Program No Clinical Questions - Comfortable general questions - followed by a lenghty presentation (yawn) AIIMS Doc 2005 IM Guthrie Program Medical Questions !! Yana 2005 IM Guthrie/ Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA Tell-tale point about program: LOVES INDIANS….99 % Indian residents LOCATION: Absolutely, the middle of nowhere, the tell-tale point is that the bus from New York to Waverly (where the hotel is situated) carried only six passengers, and five of them were Indians, and before we got into the bus, I was pretty sure that all of them were headed to Guthrie, and believe it or not, all of them were headed there. Hotel: One of the few programs that pays for accommodation, a quaint little Inn called te O’Brian’s name with a bartender called Tom, who taught me more about red and white wines and the wine trails of Ithaca than what I knew all my life. Pre-interview dinner: With Intern, PGY- 2 resident and chief resident, really good food (the only candidate, and probably the first one ever to have WINE at the pre-interview dinner), especially with Iserson’s screaming out at ya “STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL”, but the combination of sweet, red wine and herbal grilled chicken with lime was too tempting for me to resist. Thankfully for me, the chief resident had lager beer and that sorted out the oddities a little. Interview Schedule: 07.30 am: Meet Program Coordinator 07.40 am: Morning report Pretty good, a case presentation of atrial fibrillation by the Chief Resident, who was a really chirpy, nice guy, who was born and brought up in Sayre with a terrific sense of humor. The morning report made me feel like I was in my college, with tons of Indians all around. 08.30 am: Introduction to program by Associate Program Director. A very good presentation (I usually carry the must/ want analysis with me and there is usually half left unfilled at the end of the presentation and here the presentation covered everything, made me wonder if Iserson’s was a guide for PD’s too!!) The Associate Program Director came across as a really nice guy, dedicated to teaching, and clearly mentioned the strengths and weaknesses of the program. Three interviews. IF YOU ARE GOING TO GUTHRIE, BE PREPARED FOR MEDICAL QUESTIONS. Once the interviews started going towards the medical side, the very high opinion about the program that I had (especially because I had low expectations about the program and then attended morning report and the presentation) went down. If a program wasn’t smart enough to figure out from the application if the guy was academically good or not, its probably not a good one. I told one of the faculty members this (in a different way, of course) and she told me since the majority of applicants are IMGs, they need to see how good their communication skills are before they can take them. So be prepared to take History, ask for physical signs, order investigations and discuss differentials for young Hypertension, Asthmatic with breathlessness, headache with weakness etc. I was totally unprepared for this, but I am pretty sure that I aced it. 11.00 am: Tour of the hospital Taken to Clinic, ER, Floors, ICU, Rehab, Gym, On call rooms, resident lounge by an intern (a really nice Indian girl) and a PGY-2 (a smart Indian resident), a pretty detailed tour, all the nuts and bolts discussed and delivered. Why are Indians so introvertive, hesitant and self-conscious?. Most of the applicants didn’t’ even open their mouth throughout the dinner and the tour. 12.00 noon: Noon conference. Cancelled. Pretty good pasta, salad though. Punch line: DON’T GO FOR H1 IF YOU WANT TO GO ON FOR A FELLOWSHIP GUTHRIE 2002: 7/9 RESIDENTS ON J1 WENT ON TO FELLOWSHIP 2/9 RESIDENTS ON H1 WENT ON TO GC JOB 2005: 7/9 RESIDENTS ON H1 WENT ON TO PRACTISE FOR GC IF YOU WANT FELLOWSHIP, GO FOR J1 (ESP IF YOU ARE IN A COMMUNITY HOSPITAL) PROS: 1. top-notch residents (SCORED SECOND HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY AMONG ALL RESIDENTS IN THE IN-TRAINING EXAM….WOW!!!!!!!.INDIANS AND ACADEMICS AND EXAMS MEAN THE SAME!!!!!!!) 2. friendly faculty 3. great board pass rates (100 % for 3 years) 4. poor fellowship record (esp because desperate IMGs want H1) 5. excellent ancilary staff (no scutwork at all) 6. opportunitieis for clinical research 7. Computerized medial records. 8. All sub-specialty postings and sub-specialty attendings available. CONS: 1. not a great location 2. small program (10 residents) 3. not great fellowship opportunities. GIVEN A CHOICE, I WOULD EASILY CHOOSE GUTHRIE OVER ANY OF THE CRAPPY H1 NY PROGRAMS. IM Harbor Hospital Program, Baltimore, MD Attended morning report, directors rounds and noon conference. Was interviewed by PD and Assoc. PD. Was asked general questions like Why Harbor, hobbies etc.Seemed to be very interested in scores. NO medical questions asked asked. A good program, residents seem happy.Good teaching. interviewee 2005 IM Harlem Hospital A short test to start with followed by interviews. Test can be on MI, hepatic encephalopathy, GERD, Anemia etc. You are invariably quizzed on the topic that you get in the test.If PD impressed with you, prematch is usually offered. This is followed by a tour of the hospital. APED 2004 IM Interfaith Program, NY Majority were Medical Question Forum Post 2005 IM jersey city only medical qs. prefer GC holders. very friendly and professional environment. kia 2004 IM Jersey City Medical Center, NJ Interviewed by only one person. Very few simple medical questions. Mostly general discussion like what I wanted to do after 3 years (go into fellowship or private practice). Felt comfortable. PD and CR were made me feel good. No fellowships here. They take only GC/citizens. my personal experience 2005 IM Jersey City Medical Centre,Jersey City,NJ Interview started with morning report, which was very interesting. All the participating doctors asked the residents lot of questions. Later the Chief resident gave the program overview and then the PD interviewed us.He is a very nice person, makes us feel comfortable.Asked both medical and general questions. Then comes the hospital tour.Hospital even though not very big,but is new with all the necessary facilities. The interview ended with the Noon Conference and Lunch with the Chief Resident. Boston 2005 IM jersey shore nj day started with an overview of program by PD.He told us everything we need to know about the program, both strengths and weaknesses. After that there were 2 interviews by faculty memebers. Then we were taken to attend morning report. After that there was a group interview with academic manager of the hospital. lastly tour of the hospital by an intern. Overall it was good. No medical questions and we were given ample time to ask any questions we had. Not much fellowship options there if u'r looking for that. personal experience 2005 IM Kern Medical Center Program, Ca No medicine questions were asked. 2 interviews - one with PD and other with chairman. Very Relaxed atmosphere.Took us out to show the town and for lunch.Residents seem happy. The town is very small. No fellowship opportunites except maybe Inf. Dis. rarely. Patsy 2005 IM Kings brook, Ny PD is a rude person. dirty program and lots of scut work. ask medical Qs. ghser 2005 IM Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center at start you will have to give all the documents they want and will be given a tour of the facility. then some one from faculty will call every body in the room and explain every thing upfront.will tell you good and bad. after that you go out and two people in the room call you one by one and ask very fundamental questions. like today was a patient with sore throat had hematuria. what are the managing points you will consider. Very laid back. polowhite 2005 IM Kingsbrook Program Lotsa simple medical Questions.. I heard so 2005 IM Lincoln Same with me, Asked open-ended questions-Then had 2 interviewers. According to the others interviewed, they weren't asked medical questions but one of mine did. I also agree that the hospital was suprisingly clean and nice. The intern did admit that they do have a lot of work. I guess it was ok... Anon 2005 IM Lincoln General Questions - no clinical Last Year Exp. from Friend 2004 IM Lincoln Program , NY No Clinical Questions... Why are you interested this program?Lotsa Observeship Questions. Is your current course gonna be over before you join ? The hospital is harshly criticized on scutwork but as far as I could see it looks ok especially the internal meds ward. Beautiful I'll say. The interview will begin with an open ended question...the first one because you will interview with two persons. Then after you will realise that you've talked a way too much he will ask you what questions do you have about his program and what have you done so far in the medical field. The second one which comes depending on your nationality with a doctor thats either indian or from pakistan or from europe will just be linked to the first one by this meaning that you will face another open ended qs after which the PD (or somebody else) will start to hunt you down. No stereotypes kind of questions just questions regarding what you've just said. My personal opinion: be incisive, be wise and be short. Ask about pre-match if u are interested Friend'sinterview IM Maimonides Interviewed by an attending & resident together. Very laid back people. Did not pimp me. Asked 'why their program ?'. Asked about things from my CV. Provided breakfast-Lunch. The chair & PD gave info. about the program during breakfast. Nice people. MD2B 2005 IM Mercy catholic Very relaxed,8.45-10.00am details about the program from the PD Dr.Eiser-then an interview with the Assc. PD with general questions. But then he saw that I'am old grad &o asked me about DKA and spetic arthritis. I did my best. Then asked me about my future plans and family. Then a tour of the hospital, with a visa orientation - Out by 200pm. G/L !! masti 2005 IM Methodist Hospital,Dallas The pre-interview dinner with the residents was v.good.the chief-resident is v.nice.next day interview began at 10.00,the faculty were v.friendly and nice.no medical questions.the hospital is good, although a small program. The atmosphere is v.relaxed and laidback.Residents are happy with the working conditions and share good rapport with faculty.but the noon conference needs improvement.v.approachable and helpful faculty but not a v.academic program. 2005 IM Metropolitan Hospital, NY low key interview. Only one interviewer. Offers Prematches. Email Post 2005 IM Morristown Hospital,Morristown,NJ Interview started with the morning report,a GI case discussed by the Gastroenterologist and is very informative. Then the PD and associate PD gave detailed description about the program and the neighbourhood. Then we went for the hospital tour with an intern. She is very active and friendly too.The hospital looks beautiful and has all the amenities. Then there were2 interviews with either Pd ,Ass Pd ,Attending or the CR. I was interviewed by the PD and she asked me to present a case and then discussed another case. All the residents were and doctors are very friendly.very good working atmosphere. Interview ended with a lunch with another 4 residents. Mass 2005 IM Mountainside hospital.nj cool program.excellent friendly faculty.I liked it very much.Though, no prematches offered in our session. puma 2005 IM Mt Sinai North General,NY. Started with Grand rounds for 1 hr about recent advance in Cardio-Thoracic surgery. It was more of surgical, but it was ok.After that a short intorduction by the prog.PC.Then a written test for 20mins,case was epilepsy,SOB,DM.After that interview by the prog.director and ass.PD. Ass.PD asked all medical QS,P.D asked me only general Qs.Followed by noon conference, lunch then over.Over all small comm.prog, good teaching, most residents r african.american.I don't think the place is very safe. Rish 2003 IM NY college of medicine(brooklyn-queens) As soon as u go, u get a case and are asked to write about the specific Q's u would ask + tests u would order along with D/Ds.Then after you go in for the interview the PD will ask some Qs about yourself then ask afew medical Qs again. Friendly PD.Personally I liked the discussion with him. Dont bother if you don't answer as you wont be humiliated anyways.G/L puma 2005 IM NYMC (Westchester) Morning started with the introduction about the program by an associate program director. this followed by morning report with the program director. morning report was lively with the program director who was very enthusiastic, very good teacher (no wonder he had a master teacher award). the case was discussed in depth and comprehensively. the faculties are excellent here. its a pretty busy hospital though for interns. but 2nd and 3rd year is quite relaxed. only 1 interview. personality question. no medical questions asked. very friendly and nice faculties. very good fellowship placement as they usually prioritized their graduates for fellowship. they have fellowship in almost every field. you name it. it is worth coming here. interviewee 2005 IM Our Lady of Mercy 2004 Experience = Seems like they first have a simplistic MCQ exam consisting of 50 questions (corrected before the faculty interviews)- then interview by either PD or associate PD, and then tour of the hospital by 3rd yr resident. Sheela 2004 IM Our lady of mercy, NY 50 MCQs, not very easy. they will consider you only if you score>60%. Assoc. PD very nice person, no medical Qs. Will give prematch and allow you to think. Clean hospital. only draw back is in Bronx and residents mostly live in Yonkers. 2005 IM prince george hosp,md decent community hospital.nice pc and pd.not such a bad program as reviews say.they ask med questions.if u want to do primary care, good program.if u want to do fellowship, have second thoughts sandhu 2005 IM Providence Hosp DC Interview started late about 11.00a.m. Was interviewd by PD and chief resident. No medical questions were asked;just genral questions.Attended a noon conference(boring). Not sure about the quality of teaching but residents seem happy overall. One resident had just been accepted in John Hopkins for a GI fellowship but she had spent some time doing research before starting residency. flo 2005 IM RAHC , Harlingen , TEXAS Nice interview experience. Total 7 interviews with the faculty. No medical Questions. Only general questions. Being a small program very very good opportunity to learn any procedure. Good hospital. No scut work. Nice pay highest in texas. If you do well in research you can get fellowship. PD and APD are very repsected professionals in their field. Good Luck star 2005 IM Raritan Bay Hospital 1. Medical Questions often asked - g/l 2. Forum Post " I had my interview there yesterday. They do ask medical qs. First interviewer asked me to present a case , so I presented one that I had prepared and then he asked additional qs related to it. Know your case in detail. Second interviewer gave me a clinical scenario and asked me how I would manage him and what kind of tests I would order. I was taken by surprise by one qs: Is anybody in your family a doctor? And I said - No . Then he asked what does my father do for living" IMG 2005 IM Raritan Bay medical center ,NJ Hi, its a small community program ,8 positions. Small hospital just IM residency. my interview was at 2.00 clock in afternoon. we were 3 people only. First they made us sit in a small room. No tea, coffee or even a glass of water offered. Then the chief resident interviewed all of us . He asked general questions like what are ur plans , what u did after graduation etc ... He was nice. then he asked two three medical questions. Gave a clinical scenario and questions based on that. Then PD interviewed he is an old guy - some IMG , i believe from Germany. He interviewd , and asked me questions like he already has written on form. As i was answering he was writing it down ? Like do u know computers ? Which other languages do u know etc.? then he gave a clinical scenario and asked to manage the patient. Was simple case of pain epigastrium. While i was answering he was busy answering his phone ..was looking at his pager etc. Was looking it his papers etc. Then he explianed that they don't offer any prematches and explianed whole match process to me. And thatt we have to rank and told me that i will be matching there only if i rank them high etc. Then the chief residnet took us for a tour for 5-10 mins. Showed us ER , floors etc. he didnt volunteer any info about the program. It was only when we asked questions - he answere that. We were free in about an hour .After the tour he showed us the front gate of hosital and that we could leave. We didnt meet any of residents working there. They didnt give us a chance to attend there morning report or noon conference etc. .. Not a very impressive program.. Only good thing they provide is a subsidized housing town house - three bedroom for 1000 bucks a month. They dont sponsor any visa, no fellowships. Only IM program in hospital.Chief resident told us after 3-4 o'clock its only residnets who manage the whole hospital as they don't have any fellows there. In the end its like any other community program. Kevry 2005 IM Rochester General Hospital nice riendly atmosphere, no fellowships, great program director. overall nice experience, no medical questions ash 2005 IM Rochester general hospital really nice friendly place. pd is a gr8 guy. no medical questions. have no fellowships of their own, but have good placement record. busy hospital. HoHung 2005 IM Roger Williams Medical Center Nice friendly hospital, seemed like a great bunch of people, fellowships available, only j1 visa. no medical questions in interview. kangze 2005 IM Seton Hall Elizabeth Trenton Waste of time and money. Ask Medical questions, bad location, shabby staff, uninspiring PD. No scope for fellowships unless you are GC. Jhumpa Lahiri 2005 IM Seton Hall/Trinitas, NJ The hospital is not very nice; 1h presentation about the program, not very exciting; interview with 1 faculty member only. Nice residents; most of them are from arabic countries. x 2005 IM Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit Associate PD and CR interviewed me. Both asked medical questions & nothing else. They claim they only take the best applicants. Lots of IMGs there, one 1st year resident told me there are 75% IMGs. No fellowships. Lot of hard work like any other community based program. my personal experience 2005 IM St Vincent Med Center, CT Great hospiyality, very friendly people; interview with 2 faculty members, NO MEDICAL Qs, only classical q: strengths/weaknesses, future plans... x 2005 IM St. Agnes Starts with morning report. PD very enthusiatic, friendly. Then a hospital-tour. Interviewed by PD alone. One clinical scenario & lotsa general Qs. Residents seem happy. Good community program shiva 2005 IM St. Johns' Episcopal hospital, NY Medical Questions Asked - Prematches Given 2005 Post 2005 I M St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, MI PD very nice, made me feel comfortable. First he went thru my papers and Reco.letters, asked me questions about them, then went into program, showed me schedule and everyhting. Only question he asked me was How do u see urself in next 5-7 years & my research experience. I asked him questions about the program, shook hands and left. Next met the Assoc.Pd, a nice lady from Romania, asked me Research experience in medical school, asked me to present an interesting case and then talked about the program and fellowship opportunities. She said now they have no fellowships but they r thinking of bringing them back. Finally I shook hands & left. Next was the chief resident - She too asked me about research experience & to present an interesting case. I asked her about the call schedule and she explained in details, asked her a couple of questions - afterwards left for the hospital tour with the other 2 interviewees. The hospital is very nice, clean, lots of facilities, computers every where . We saw wards, library, call rooms + resident's lounge, cafteria ER. Very Neat and every patient has a seperate room not just curtain dividers. Then a noon conference which was very informative & directed towards board review. Forum Post by an Interviewee 2005 IM St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, MA I was interviewed by the Program Director, and 2 associate program directors. Program Director was very nice and soft spoken..he just asked me what m gonna do 10 yrs from now. what are my goals in doing residency. the rest we just talked about my family and about his family. where he did his residency..it was like a friendly conversation with him...the 2 associate program directors asked me medical q's like how to treat TB..and if being called by a nurse about the ortho patient in the floor who develops sudden onset of dyspnea what will you do? she did not specifically mention whether its post-op or not...she just want to test how you think and thinking broadly in formulating differential diagnosis..overall, there is a lot of teaching here..friendly, approachable, knowledgeable faculties..each resident is encouraged to do scholarly activity..very nice hospital.the atrium looks like a 5 star hotel lobby with falls on it. interviewee 2005 IM St.John's hospital,Detroit,MI The day starts with morning report, intro abt program by chief resident, followed by 2 interviews with faculty members.many medical questions.but nice community program with some fellowships, friendly residents, safe place.day ends at 2pm. lax 2005 IM SUNY @ BUFFALO (Erie County Medical Center) Interviewed by 2 people. PD was on leave. Asked me Qs about an interesting case that i wrote in my PS. No medical Q's though. They just want to know u. Q's like your goals in residency, your future plans, tell me about yourself. Everyone was friendly. As an intern, u rotate to 3 hospitals - VA, Erie County, BGH. Large program with good teaching. Strictly follows ACGME rules. Previous Interviwee 2005 IM Synergy Medical Education Alliance,MI Its a very small place, almost like a village. The hospitals, Harrison and Cooper, are really big. The PC is a really nice female. The day starts with morning report where it is encouraged that you participate. Then one goes for attending rrounds. The interviews start post-lunch. Interviewed by three faculty members along with PD. The PD doesn't offer pre-matches. All in all, an average program. Yup, and totally filled with south Indians. So even in noon lecture, the language of conversation amongst residents is Tamil.So...........judge for urself guys!!!!!! bolo 2006 IM Texas A & M . Scott & White Very Reputed program. One of the top 100 in nation. No medical questions. 2 interviews. Has simulation center to learn procedure on manikins only 10 places in nation hva sim center. Pre interview dinnner was very informative. PD is a good human being and very respectable person. This program has many fellowships and many research opportunities. one the best programs i have seen. Neptune 2005 IM Texas Tech,El Paso started at 8.00 with morning report-good.interviews with PD and asst.PD.PD asked questions abt a Meningitis case-same as Response experience.there were some rare cases and good teaching but majority of the staff and patient population is Hispanic.noon conference was interesting.there were only 2 of us on the day of interview and we were surprised that by the time we were leaving-1.30 p.m,the PD,PC have left and there was noone to talk to towards the end.My interview went really well but I was disappointed with their behaviour and will not rank it . 2005 IM Unity Health, Rochester Was interviewed by 2 faculty and chief resident. Was asked mainly general questions. Attended noon conference(boring) and attending rounds(really nice). Residents were mainly IMGs. flo 2005 IM maricopa, phoenix- laid back interveiw. started with morning report. meeting with PD, program overveiw by cheif resident. interveiw with faculty. tour of hospital, lucnh, then interveiw with PD. nice program. hospital a bit old. fellowships depend on ur effort. good if u are considering primary care. IM wayne state/ sinai grace- Lots of imgs. interveiws were conducted by a faculty a nd a cheif resident. they asked medical questions. hospital was OK. resident who toured us said it wasnt good for fellowships. they claim to have 100% board pass rates and thats no wonder since they have teaching every day accompanied by self assessment tests evry fortnight.. IM Henry Ford- great program. PD is very good. 2 interveiws- 1 with PD, other with an assoc. PD. very laid back. good hospital. they have subsidised accomodation for residents accross the street if u want it. fellowship opportunities are not that great inspite of having their own fellowship programs. thats becoz of the large size of the programs and fewer fellowship spots comparatively. IM Univeristy of South Dakota No clinical Questions - Stress on Ethics since PD is in Bioethics/Palliative field. Give you an ethical problem and how u will solve it. Visa: Sponsor J1 only - though it appears they do tranfer ur H1 at ur legal expenses Josh 2005 IM University of Buffalo It was a very nice and relaxed experience. They do not ask medical questions, just general questions. Somebody may ask you to present an intersting case that you have seen. Be yourself and everything will be fine. BC 2005 IM University of Tennesse, Chattanooga Personality Assessment Questions No Medical Questions - very neat place and city Singh 2005 IM Woodhull program Medical Questions... Forum Post 2005 IM Yale University (Bridgeport) Interview Schedule: 08.00 am: Meet Program Coordinator PC become my greatest friends at the interview and I diligently got information from her about the other interviewees and applicants. Punch line: By October this year, we have received the same number of applications that we had throughout of last year, a huge increase and this year, our short listing score is 92. (I thought your website says 85!!) 08.30 am: Introduction to program by Chief Resident followed by Program Director. The Program Director came across as a suave and powerful man who knew what exactly he was talking about and wasted no time in convincing us that training at his program would be different and more importantly, strongly oriented towards fellowship placements. Punch line: Our affiliation with Yale is not just on paper, IT IS REAL ť 09.30 am: Morning report An excellent teaching tool, and was different from other programs. One resident (usually PGY-3) makes a ppt presentation which is essentially a discussion with interns, residents, attendings and sub specialty electives participate. I felt that the spirit de corps among the residents and faculty was very good and the discussion was animated. Punch line: (resident to attending)- Frank, don't you think my interpretation of this ECG is better? 10.30 am: Interview with Cardiology Chief A very nice man in an even better room. An interviewee driven interview which started with my questions and he loved my unconventional questions. I don’t waste time asking people about board pass rates and stuff and got down right to the business of time for conferences and research, areas of research, philosophy of program. Punch line: We have sent our residents to MAYO and Hopkinsť (went on to show a poster of current and past residents and where they are doing their fellowships, BTW, this poster in every room of the hospital ť 11.00 am: Tour of the hospital Taken to Clinic, ER, Floors, ICU, Rehab, Gym, On call rooms, resident lounge by two interns (Prelim residents going on to Radiology and believe, me I have never see fresher interns), one intern, an AMG, a la Brad Pitt, tall, handsome, machoistic, cool and suavely dressed in a brown tweed jacket, and another second generation Indian- American, a great tour, great interns, computerized labs, cushy on-call rooms, friendly staff, and on the way, met a Pgy-3 going onto GI fellowship at Mayo, and I thought to myself later. Punch line: Rank our program number one and you will never regret your decision ť 12.00 noon: Noon conference in Endocrinology. The faculty endocrinologist was a very well-read guy, but I felt just wasn’t a great teacher. He spoke about Thyroid tests, and I learnt a lot from him. All residents attend (attendance is mandatory, what a pleasure) and lunch every day (what pasta and sandwiches, I just whetted my appetite on them) Punch line: 40 % of our full time teaching faculty are from Yale ť 1.00 pm: exit interview with PD. The PD kept impressing me with his strong words, conviction and confidence and went on to brag about the fellowship placements, trashed other programs in Connecticut, brushed away board pass rates as a measure of a programs strengths (here I jumped in and told him how useless the USMLE was as a measure of a good Doctor), and then we got into an animated discussion in which we both agreed good scores mean good test takers and nothing else. Here, he added that since everyone, gets 99/ 99 these days, we have started looking at other areas of the application to find out how good the applicant is. Punch line: Both me and the Cardiology chief are very impressed with you and think that you are the kind of resident we will want to have in the program” (not sure if he says this to all applicants and not sure if most PDs say the same thing, coz at Virginia, the faculty told me the same thing) PROS: 1. top-notch residents 2. even better faculty 3. great board pass rates 4. astounding fellowship record 5. excellent anciliary staff 6. fellowships in the program itself 7. a program director willing to do anything to get you into great fellowships 8. affiliation with Yale 9. every resident presents at national meetings and has done publications 10. awesome opportunitieis for clinical research 11. two months at Yale 12. Resident evaluation by OSCE. CEX and feedback is just amazing (check website) CONS: 1. not a great location 2. pretty strenuous work load 3. small program (10 residents) 4. every other resident is like 99/99 or MRCP or MD, so they would be very good competitotors to get great LORs in sub-specilaty electives 5. Not much of bench research Overall, a strong program with an even stronger PD, I felt very comfortable there Punch line: I will rank the program highlyť (I told the PD this and he loved it!!!!!) Neurology North Shore-LIJ I went for my second interview at North Shore Long Island Jewish program to New York the previous Friday, November 18 and I will briefly describe my experience. It selects 7 applicants every year for its residency program and looked busy. The Chairman of the program, Dr. Ronald Kanner, who is also the Program Director is the star attraction of the program. I attended his grand rounds and the case he was discussing was sixth nerve palsy secondary to pressure effect produced on the nerve against the petrous part of the temporal bone by a metastasis secondary to the colon carcinoma in an adult man. I enjoyed his style of teaching. There were two more academic sessions that day which were also good. The program is undergoing streamlining which would help reduce the number of places residents have to go to attend cases and clinics. Even though the program is busy, residents looked satisfied with their work load. There is not much opportunity to do research though people get into good fellowship programs if they want to after their residency. The program is located in one of boroughs of NY, Queens which is quite peaceful compared to the bustle and din of Manhattan. The features that this program ought to have- more speciality clinics and more clinics on campus and more opportunities to do research. Their imaging facilities were not clearly great and they are still computerizing their patient data base which could be accessed online and off campus. I didn`t have an opportunity to know more about their faculty as well because they don`t have all the information on their website. Please post your experiences if you attended any other interviews in any of the neurology programs. CravingIMG - pastin from Forum 2005 Ob-Gyn Temple Program got interviewed by 2 staff members, questions where low key, more like tryin to make you feel lees tense, and to see how would you merge into their team. No Medical Questions Read on Forum 2005 Ob-Gyn University Of Illinois Rockford The program had booked a realyy lovely hotel Candlewood suites for the night prior to interview. I was greeted with a kit containing a lot of freebies and a pamphlet containing information about program. There was dinner with residents that evening. Was treated like royalty in a niCE Italian restaurant, asked a lot of general questions regarding the program to residents. were really a nice friendly bunch of guys. The interview began with morning report where there was discussion on a OB case. All the interviewees asked non-medical questions. a great program. iiimmmggggdoc 2005 Ob-Gyn University of South Alabama 7.30 am grand round for an hour, then tea break & campus tour. PD's Intro. .Interview started at 9 am - 5 people interviewed me, 1 resident and 4 faculties. 1st faculty asked if I had any Qs about the program. I asked a few - about ongoing research, do you carry out instrumental vaginal deliveries, expectation from the candidates? he asked me about the city..like why you applied to Mobile ? What atrracted you here? What have you heard about the program? he asked me about the scores.2nd faculty asked me about my strengh & weakness, what motivated me to do Ob-Gyn.She then let me ask Qs?? I asked about change in visa policies - an that I knew they sponsored only J1 - but if they made any changes recently. But i guess this is not smart ask about visa issue to faculty bcoz they know very little about it. Then i asked is there anything that i can do as an applicant?..she said just impress all the interviewers thats it(not a smart Q to ask again).3rd was a PGY3 resident - he asked about what qualities you are looking in the program.Asked if I'll listen to seniors since I was already trained. He discussed family issues- plans for family. He assesed how i am as a person and as a team member will they be comfortable with me. 4th faculty asked me about my hobbies and what I do in spare time. I said cooking , travelling. She asked my recipes, favourate thing about travelling & which places I travelled and if anyy international travel, my dream place to visit, if any place where I won't wanna go. She asked me about what i did after comming to usa for 1 and 1/2 yrs then she talked about the volunteer experince. 5tth faculty he asked me about my previous experiences - if I had dealt with forceps & ventouse. He asked me to decribe vaginal hysterectomy procedure. He dicussed different types of repairs with me. he asked about the policies we use to follow in residency in india. he asked to decribe an intresting case I came across. It was all about my experience. After interview - a lunch and then hopsital tour. A resident gave us all information about the 4 yr curriculum, took us to wards, opd, nicu, labor room, labs and department. At 2.00 pm it was all over ! http://www.aippg.net/forum/images/smiles/icon_smi...""" border="0"> Personal Experience: aishanigore@yahoo.com 2005 Pathology Univ of Florida, JAX interviewed by 9 faculty...the whole department....very relaxed except for a couple of them who were very picky about the application. But then it is part of the process. PD was great and the program looks good. Residents were very happy and comfortable with the program. The city was a little depressing but i dont care about it at this stage. Nice hospital very close to the downtown. Looked safe though. GL everyone. mast 2005 Pathology University of Buffalo, NY Interviewed by 4 people. Very laid back. No pressure whatsoever. Felt very comfortable, didn't feel like an interview at all. They did take us on a tour of city of Buffalo, which was awesome. Breakfast, lunch included. my personal experience 2005 Pathology University of New Mexico, Albuquerque 5 people interviewed me, very relaxed. They wanted to know why their program. CR picked us up from the hotel (paid by the program), breakfast, lunch and also happy hour at 5 PM. Great program. No medical q's at all. Only general questions. my personal experience 2005 Pediatrics Bronx lebanon peds A really disorganised program with a disorganised schedule.A panel interview with three guys interviewing at once. The chairman is really a pathetic guy with horrible interviewing skills. The program directoe is a gem of a person. Interview ends with lunch. bolo 2005 Pediatrics Miami Children's I was interviewed by 4 people for 20 mins each.No medical q were asked, lots abt why peds, why USA,etc. and CV and Personal statement.discussed a lot. Then there was lunch with residents were we can ask them Q followed by a tour.of the hospital. A plesant time ! Interviewee on Forum 2005 Pediatrics Newark Beth Israel Really liked the program. Residents seemed happy and laid back.Grand rounds was great, they had a visiting professor from florida. Also attended noon conference. Was interviewed by the PD only; a nice man. They offer prematches flo 2005 Pediatrics St Joseph, Paterson NJ Attended grand rounds and noon conference. Was interviewed by one faculty member. No medical questions were asked.Filled with IMGs.A normal day starts as early as 5.30 a.m for an intern. Residents seem happy and are full of praises for the PD. Flo 2005 Pediatrics Winthrop I was surprised that I was the one asking the Q. It was very unsual and at the same time very relaxing. You feel like they took the time to know you through your application. Nice lunch with the residents. My experience 2005 Peds. Bronx-Lebanon 2004 Experience = Friendly Interviewers. Asked only usual interview questions about the things in resume and 'tell me about yourself',etc. Only 1 medical question - gave history and PE of a child with croup and asked management. Guess everyone that day was asked the same question. They offer prematch. The problem is the place is not safe to move around, you need to call security to go out to the parking in the evening. ZZZ - Read this on a forum 2004 Psychiatry Loma Linda University I definitely will not rank this program. 1. The program does not have even one IMG, probably has never interviewed an IMG, the PD asked me, “can you do a residency with this J1 and H1 visas”. 2. The hospital and University is run by the Seventh day Adventists church 3. the town, Loma Linda is a town with a majority of seventh day Adventists 4. the program website, in the first page, says, that by agreeing to train at the program, you agree to serve the mission of Jesus Christ 5. the majority of nurses, patients, staff, residents and Professors are Seventh Day Adventists 6. by following the principles of the seventh day Adventists, the hospital and cafeteria serves only VEGETARAIN FOOD, NO CAFFEINE, SO NO COFFEE, NO PEPPER, NO ALCOHOL!!!!!!!!! 7. One of the nurses at the Behavioral Medicine Center, when introduced to me by the PD, told us,…initially she was at a loss of words, and then she managed to say - we would like to have different kinds of people working here - and the PD says,ťWe are becoming an International Programť. That just wasn't right. 8. The focus of the address by the chair, PD and Professors was the Church. 9. the program is heavily psychotherapeutically oriented, which I don’t prefer 10. the program has a huge emphasis on clinical training, which I am not fond of. 11. the program has minimal research opportunities, which is a huge drawback, as far as I am concerned. 12. the PD, a lady, was very mean, dominating the interview, interrupting me, asking too many questions and didn't even give me any time to ask questions. Otherwise, the training is awesome, the facilities enormous, excellent patient population, good pay, low cost of living, beautiful town, well-equipped large fitness center, strong didactic schedule. Psychiatry Loyola University, Chicago Strong program, mix of IMGs and AMGs, fantastic chair - he himself took us on tour of VA and facilties, pretty weak PD, happy residents, except a few, good research facilties, balanced psychopharm and psychotherapy training, diverse patient population. Lack of inpatient psychiatry unit at Loyola University is a major weakness, J1 visa. Will definitely rank the program. Psychiatry St. Elizabeth, Washington DC This is a person's experience for Oct 2005. He says it was not great. Interview started late. 3 of the faculty canceled on their interviews due to some conference-started late. residents and chief resident very sweet. asked the usual q's really try to get to know u. Then it wad PD. besides the usual, he asked to present a case and also asked q about depression, psydynamic theories, etc. Online Read 2005 good luck

You can keep your opinion about IMGs for yourself. do not broadcast it. some AMGs have DELUSIONS too.
