Congrats man, it's a great come-back story. What happened the first time? Heck, tell us what happened the second time. It must be an interesting story. We're all ears! Congrats again. I don't think it makes a difference that you got it the second time around. A great score is a great score.

hi., i thank every one by name for ur replies. the first time when i took the exam i just heard the kaplan lectures and studied the material. i did not concentrate much on the other materials. i also had some personal reasons which r responsible for my poor performance. the 4 months i prepared for the second time i did the kap tests, q bank, nbme, goljan, brs physio and board simulator. i gave another reading of the kaplan material. but truly i am not able to enjoy my score bcos of the responses from my collegues. many r saying that during the interviews they will take the average of my two scores which will be very less. is it true?? if u have any information on whether they will take the average or only the second score pls mail me.. also if u have any other queries feel free to contact me.

Why would they take a failed score into account? Personally, I dont think they should. If anything they should appreciate the way you turned things around this time. Anyway I sincerely hope they do not consider your first score. I dont think you should worry so much about your old score.

Congratulations on your terrific score !!! Obviously, I canīt say this for sure, but from what Iīve heard, the program directors CAN look at all of your scores. However, Iīm sure that somebody that scored higher than most of the US-grads will definitely be taken into serious consideration for a residency ! After all, you probably had your reasons for failing the first time ! And practically everybody knows that going from a failing score to a passing score is hard enough - but to actually score 98/244 the second time around probably took lots of work and effort. And thatīs exactly what theyīre looking for: a resident that will appreciate the job (which Iīm sure all of us will do !) and will be able to go that extra mile, to work harder than alot of other people. And from personal experience I can say this: my sister failed her USMLEs 5 times (and finally just passed with a 75, I think), but still got into a residency program. Sure it wasnīt Harvard, but she was happy and did a good job. And her program director used to say: "You know, sometimes people arenīt good at taking tests, but they make up for it by being excellent doctors !" And I think she was right about that - at least thatīs what keeps me going ;-) Anyway, the USMLE-scores still haunt her, though. Everytime she applies for a new license, she has to fill out how many attempts she took, and in some states -because of that- she canīt get a license. Thatīs why she told me it would be better to postpone the exams, rather than to take them eventhough I wasnīt quite ready for them. Well, I still feel like Iīm not ready, but my exam is coming up in 3 weeks, and I canīt postpone it anymore - wish me luck !!! (I can really use it - I need to support my kids !) I hope maybe this gave you and everyone else out there some hope: people can still get into residencies after failing the USMLEs 5 times !!! I know thatīs what works for me when I feel discouraged !!! Keep us posted on your interviewing, weīd love to hear how it went ! Oh, and it would be great, if you could post your exam-experience - for all of us that still have to take "the big one" :-) I would be especially interested in how the questions are similar or maybe different to the QBank and NBME questions. Thanks !

hey! do not get discouraged bcoz they DO NOT AVERAGE your TWO SCORES! Your colleagues are just jealous of you. Yes, they do look at the number of attempts you make, they make look at the first score (look at, not stare at...) but your second will win you over. You don't have to worry.
