Might need a little more info. a hot nodule is rarely cancerous and is usually seen in the elderly. a cold nodule has a greater potential for being cancerous, and is usually seen in young males and children papillary is the most common thyroid Ca. but is is usually considered "cold nodule" can somone explain hot nodule and cold nodule better please. if i have to choose i would choose C.

Nodules which do not take up iodine ---- "cold " nodules Nodules which do take up most of the iodine ---- "hot " nodules Nodules take up the same amount iodine as the rest of the gland ---- "warm" nodules It's only cold nodule that may be malignant. A looks like right answer.

hashimotos is most common in women and individuals with a family history of thyroid disease.

Hot nodule =follicular adenoma . In Hashimoto disease the thyroid is affected diffusely. No nodules and the radioactive iodine uptake should be decreased due to thyroid destruction

its a. recall that a follicualr adenoma is benign. there is a beingin version (foll carcinoma--invade vessels) and then this bening version. there is no such thing as a benign papillar or benign medullay "adenoma." all of them are cancer. so, since this is benign, it is producing thyroid...but at a higher rate...so its a hot nodule. the tissue is stiull normal...there is just more of it. on the other hand...cancers are abnomrla tissue and therfore dont produce hormone and thus dont take up iodide. hashimoto may present with idoide up take INITIALLY, but int he end, it's a HYPO thyrodism and will thus produce less thyroid (take up less iodid). sorry about all the misspellings....i'm so nervous..i'm taking this beast tomorrow. any prayes woudl be apprecatred for me. thanks everyone.
