well it is not impossible but i think it would be bit difficult, the very reason why u choose primary care programme is for the fact that ur intrested in that track, but people have done it in the past. GL

nashua, its tough to get fellowship from community but its not impossible cos some community programs i interviewed at told me 50 % go to fellowships, actually u can make ur contacts,go for subspeciality electives in universities and get good lor s.it all depend on u,how hard u work

In general those who do categorical are preferred over those who do primary care for fellowship. Certain programs which emphasize on primary care like St vincent charity hospital and St Vincent worchester do have their residents going into fellowship but its only a small minority and that too in non-competitive fields.Joining a primary care program will surely make it more difficult for you to get a fellowship but not impossible.

bro if its brookdale or staten island - dont even think about it. these arent good at all and the general program itself is so bad its not worth it... pc has difficulties in fship - u cud get stuff like geriatrics but nothin like cards or gi think about it bro apurva

suppose apurva is right u can get into non-competetive fellowships like geriatrics and palliative care, but likes of gastro/cardio/critical care are difficult. GL

just some food for tought. suv were hot. with gas prices goin up. they are not. GI and Cards fellowships, are hot cool right now. But there might be an oversupply. 20 years from now senior citizen popoulation will increase. In fact due to technology and longevity. guess whats going to have demand, and will be competitive. Its just bout timiing. IM did not use to be competitive, and Path was. now its a flipped coin. Choose wise my friends.

yups - btw gastro was in the dumps 15yrs back. then the compulsory colonoscopy screenin and ravages of alcoholism came along and now its untouchable. cards has been evergreen though.. wat say.. yeah geriatrics is defin possible with primary care. but trust me geriatrics is like 3 more yrs of residency.. just as fp is like 3 more yrs of mbbs.. not bein critical ppl or any offense - my 2 cents.. and if now u have options of gettin into a categ prog - take it man. u seem gung ho about fship - so why lose that option?? apurva
