Hey guys,

It was a very bad day for me yesterday. I am feeling so depressed that I have not talked to any one since yesterday night properly. I am really shocked. All of you know that I had got prematches and I was in confusion. Yesterday I got a mail from the better hospital that had offered prematch and told me that the post is taken. They told me that they are officially withdrawing the offer. They told that they have ranked me high in the match. It came as a real shock. They had not specified to me that i had tell to my decision in any specific time. Now I am feeling really depressed. I feel that I really have lost something. I dont know what to do or say. I just hope I can come out of this before my next interview. I just feel that they have so many applicants that they can do what ever they want. I dont know what to console myself with. I am feeling really bad. Now once I have lost that offer, I am feeling that this was the hospital I really wanted to join. I was just making up my mind and I lost it. I dont know how to console myelf.

drmamu...it's all part of the matching game...u have to be ready for the ups and downs..there was no way u cud've known that the prog might withdraw their offer.first of all they shud have given u a specific time period to decide.looks like they r slightly disorganized.anyways...if u so badly want that prog...rank it high...it's very likely that u'll match there.also attend ur other interviews with high spirit.maybe u'll like some other prog better than this one.

last but not the least...count ur blessings.u're lucky enuff to have been offered a prematch.u'll probably get some more too....there r so many of us who don't even have that kind of offer.

person only learns from experience.it's ur first time applying and attending interviews so give urself that much leeway..

and feel proud...not depressed...:-)

u are still gettin ranked highly by these dudes so dont worry - for if they offered prematch they really really like u.. and remem girls and pds always live to fulfill their crusheswink

the thing to do is to keep in touch with these folks and express "interest"

tell them theyre somewhere near the very top (a nice way of sayin #1) in ur list and that u hope u get to spend 3 more yrs to get to know them better

prematches come and prematches go - maybe destiny wants u2b in a even more stellar program (or with an even more hotter babe)

apurva

drmamu, everything happens for a reason and what might appear bad today might actually be good for the future. Allah has His reasons for doing things and everyhting will turn out right at the end if u have worked hard and are sincere. dont get depressed. maybe there's something better for u in store.

cheer up

i am sorry to hear that! One question is "did you accept it already and then the program withdraws it? or the program withdraws it during the time when you were still in thinking if you want to accept and did not give them your response?"

drmamu,

Don't get frustrrated. You will still match there. One of my friends last year had only two interviews and he got prematch offer from the one. He turned down their offer hoping he will match at the second program. But, he finally matched at the program that he declined to take the prematch offer.

Normally, one would assume that programs may punish you if you turn down their offer, but they don't do it as long as you do it diplomatically. Your case is even more positive. You decided to take the offer but your slot was taken. They will for sure rank you number one to make sure that they will get you by the match. So, don't worry.

But the programs are stupid. If they have 10 prematch slots, they offer prematch to 15 people and take those who respond first. This is immoral. They can do it in a two step way:- offer prematch to the 10 best and if some of the candidates refuse to sign, then they can email the next best two, three or four candidates depending on the number of people who refused to take the offer.
