What is up BBB,

I got a prematch offer from a program that sponsors only J 1 visa. I have only 6 days to decide weather to take it or not. I would have taken the offer right away had it not been for my doublt regarding the ease with which an IMG who is a permanent resident of Canada can get the "Statement of need" from Health Canada. I contacted the lady in Ottawa who is in charge of writing the 'statement of need' and she said they have a cap/maximum limit as to how much 'statements of need' they can wirte each year. This maximium limit however was not reached for the last 3 years.

My question now, do you know some body who is a permanent resident of canada and is doing his/her resdiency on a J 1 visa??

I am afraid that after I sign the contract and withdraw from the match, the Health Canada might not write me the "Statement of need" for my J1 visa and I will end up floating in the air.

BTW, I have secured 16 interviews, 8 of them sponsoring H1 visa and the rest 8 sponsor only J 1 visa. So, do you advise me turn down the offer, go for the match keeping my chance of matching in a program who sponsors H 1 visa??

This dilemma is killing me.

Any one with any kind of input is welcomed here.

Thanks.

azirikani,

There is a maximum limit of number of "statements of need" the Health canada can write each year. For the last three years, this number was larger than the number of people who applied for the "statement of need". For example, if the Health Canada decides to limit the number of "statements of need" to be issued to 100 per year; for the last three years, the number of people who appllied for the "statement of need" was less than 100. In other words, the supply surpasses the demand which is a good thing.

Can you please ask your friend and elaborate that for me or if possible, can you get me in touch with her. You or your friend can email me at redenggo@yahoo.com.

Thank you and thanks BBB too.

To get the statement of need you need to have passed the mccee exam - I spoke with Lewis- at the offices of MCC - and they WILL NOT give the SON without the MCC. If you have passed that it also depends on the province you're in - each is different - perhaps if you give me a few details I can tell you more or you can PM me. I'm in the same boat - only I'm a year away yet - so did some research.

Cordmd,

Thank you so much!!

I know that I have to write and pass the MCCEE in order to get the statement of need. I have scheduled the MCCEE for january 12 2006.

Can you please elaborate me??
