While operating for hyper PTH, surgeon finds 2 supr and 1 infr lobe, to locate the ectopic lobe she has to trace which artery?

Anastomosis between superior and inferior thyroid arteries is a good guide to parathyroid gland

parathyroid gland can even be in mediastinum

well guys this was one of the qn my friend got in his test recently...

i think like this.... the parathyroid glands are formed from 3rd and 4th pouches.the superior parathyroids are static during development and wont descend. The inferiors will descend in embryonal life along thymus. ectopic inferior parathyroid can be anywhere in this route.the artery that develops from the particular pharyngeal arch from which parathyroids develop has the greatest chances to have the ectopics along it.For inferior PT ,the artery that develops from 3rd arch is COMMON CAROTID ARTERY.
while doing PT surgery, the surgeon must isolate and identify, recurrent laryngeal nerve in association with sup parathyroids too.
I could be totally wrong.plz correct me.

I think both sup and inf pth gland s are present along the the course of the superion thyroid artery and so following that artery may help us to get the missing pth gland.

any suggestions?
