HI FRIENDS,
CAN WE DO GASTIC LAVAGE AND GIVE ACTIVATED CHARCOAL IN UNCONSCIOUS PATIENT? mY COMMON SENSE SAYS" nO". bECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE ASPIRATION.
MY OTHER q IS IF A PT IS INTUBATED, AND WE ARE THINKING OF DRUG OVERDOSE, CAN WE DO GATRIC LAVAGE IN INTUBATED PATIENT?

if the patient is intubated, and has the cuff around the tube, then why not do gastric lavage?
but another thing to think about----if the patient is already unconscious due to drug overdose and has been so since more than 3-6 hours, then there is no indication for gastric lavage, cos the drug is already in the body system.
