Do Programs have the right to extend an invitation and offer interview dates to an applicant then simply put the applicant on the "waiting list" saying that the candidate was probably late in sending his confirmation dates?

they do that ....i dont know about the right .i was on waitlist for one prog inspite of haing a confirmed interview and i am told by another that they might call me if some one drops out..............

Yes if the date you wanted to be interviewed on is popular.

This usually hapens in the second half of the interviews period, when many applicants are only a few dates available for scheduling. So if you can go there only on a specific date and they have already filled that date, you will be placed on a wait list. The program coordinator usually calls you once someone cancels his appointment.

Well, think about it from a programs point of view. If we have 10 interview spots, are we going to only invite 10 persons? And run the risk of not everyone coming to interview? No. We have to invite more people than we have room for - and programs have for years and years and years.

Or if everyone wants one date and not another, etc. My waitlist has worked this year. I've managed to schedule 3 persons as people have dropped for different reasons (i.e. signed a pre-match, not coming to the USA due to finances or personal situations).

Good luck!
