A previously healthy 17-year old girl is brought to the physician for evaluation because of loss of appetite, sleeplessness and extreme irritability for 3 weeks. After missing many practice sessions, she quit the softball team she previously enjoyed. She often feels tired and has difficulty sitting still and concentrating on her schoolwork. Her menses are regular. Weight- 50 kg (110lbs), height-168 cm, BP- 110/70, pulse- 74/min, respirations- 16/min. Which is the most likely diagnosis?

Dysthymic disorder is the answer given. I don't know why. Does it even satisfy the duration criterion?

Dysthymic disorder if the mild symptoms of depression last for > 2 years, not showed in the Q stem
