pathophysiologic explanation and its RX ???

Its a Side effect seen with nigrostriatal DA blockade..and is characterised by hyperpyrexia, catatonia, rigidity. It is thought to involve excessive release of Ca2+...(much like malignant hyperthermia seen with anesthetics)...

Rx: symptomatic, Dantrolene, Bromocriptine

it can cause also agitation instead of catatonia. But itīs more common the latter.
