It appears most of docs who get 99 post here but anyway even those with 75 do get residency in U.S.

Hye,
Its been quite a while since you posted here but I still wanted to reply to this one since I believe I have something to say.

I have a couple of friends preparing for the Steps and each one of us religiously browse all the board related forums. One of my friends got a 99 and he did post his story on the forum. Those who got less did'nt. I know from personal experience thats it is more of a natural tendency to avoid posting if you are not a "99"er just because apparently everyone else is ,well, getting 99!

I am just commenting on the posts in the forums not about the match!

Bye
Premonition cool

you are surely right guys.

I was actually feeling very unconfortable to see that so many people get 99%. I'm waiting for my results and I do not think I will be able to get such a high score. But I'm happy to know that it is possible to get residency even with 75.

I felt compelled to respond to this post because a few months back I had the same feeling reading the posts in this forum. I am not a 99 er, both my scores are in the 80s. I did post my Step 1 experience as I gave it after Step 2. I agree most of the people who post their experiences are very high scorers. However scores are not the only thing, I applied for this years match, I got 19 interviews and got a prematch offer in IM which I have accepted. It is your total application which matters, and also your interview. So keep working hard and don't loose heart with the flurry of 99s you see here.

This should be enough for you guys to know that my classmate (who is an IMG as do I) is doing residency in Orthopedic surgery (thats right the orthopedic with big O) and guess what was his score in USMLE, STEP1 -76 STEP2-77 ... Guys --I can only assume from this that the scores are important but they are not the only thing which can get you residency in your field of choice.

Tania_b can you please do me a favor and send me a soft copy of your personal statement and sample of your letters of recommendation. Thank you for your help in advance. Here is my email address --- shbhatti@hotmail.com.

Yes, this only means that personal connections are more important things for match. But still for those who don't have ones high usmle scores are must.
