Dear bbb!

I am 38 years old. Graduated in 1995 from Vienna Medical school in Austria.

Finished Residency Program(FP) in Vienna(1997-2002) + Emergency Medicine Diploma.

Worked for Austrian Red cross till Nov.2005.

passed step1(75), step2(80), cs awaiting results, no visa req.,no publications, no US experience, 3 LOR(2 OB/Gyn, 1 Emergency Medicine).

Do I have to apply for a residency program or fellowship?

I am very confused.

I didnt apply to any Residency Program yet. Eras application is ready but not submitted.

I want to apply when i get my cs results.

Whats your opinion about my situation?

I have emergency m. expirience but i want to apply to IM,Ob/Gyn or Ped.,since i am an IMG, my score is not that great.

I appreciate your repply.

Dear bbb

I will apply to residency program, but tell me which one?

I can forget emergency medicine bcz my score is low.

Ob/Gyn is difficult to get.

Only IM? or Pediatrics too.?

Thanks for your repply in advance.

I will advice you to apply to FM or Pediatrics even OB/GYN if you really like it. The best thing you have to do is to apply to some programs now before it is too late for 2006 match. Apply to a considerable amount of programs so that you will know what your chance are. Interviews are hard to get this year but I think they are considering many things so you might be lucky to have some calls. From what I have read in the forum, Scores seem not to be the ultimate but it does help.

Thanks airmudia!

But I wanted to apply with Pass for cs in my eras application, and not awaiting(pending) results.

What do you think?

I didn't answer your question because I don't know what to tell you, nicht wahr? As an IMG you would apply for residency prior to any fellowship. If you are applying for a July 2006 start, you are extremely late in the application process for this year.

Good luck -

Dear bbb

If I apply through Eras with awaiting result for cs, and fail, I will lose alot of money.I am not so rich to throw my money through the window.

Do you understand?

Correct - it's extremely late in the year to be applying. While you may get some interviews - if you called my program right now, I would tell you not to apply. My PD has almost completly reviewed all the applications, and even if he did find a great candidate, I don't have a place to have him interview.

Dear bbb

Many programs told me that their deadline is dec.30th or even January.

I dont think its late.

And remember: The best candidates could be among the late ones, so its worth it to interview them.

I agree, but when? where? how?

If you feel confident to apply, then apply - I would never tell an applicant not to apply to a program. I'm just telling you the logistics of a side of the application process that you don't see.

Best of luck.

You are right bbb from your point of view.

But try to understand my situation; this is my last chance to apply to a residency program.

Yesterday I talked to Dr. Faselis from GWU, and he asked me when I graduated.

I said: "1995"

He told me the same thing:" You have to get into a residency program very soon".

The reason for this delay was my work in Europe/Austria/Red Cross and EMS.

I was very busy and took my step 2 very late, after CK in Munich/Germany I took CS in TX.

Thank you bbb!
