Hi ARJ
When i was coming to US about 2 mnths back....i too got a so called International Driving liscence made (they charged me only about 600 rupees in india) but the fact is........it is not really very much recognised here in US.
And hey....i sent you a PM......hope you got it.....i inquired some info from you.

International driving lisence is valid for one year in US. I am sure of this in Maryland and Michigan As I have confirmed it with MVA in Maryland and AAA in Michigan and used it there. If you are going to some other state, you can find the number of the license authority from the internet and give them a call andd get the correct information. But you will need to get a state lisence to buy a car and get a vehicle insurance. So you can use international license to drive your friends/relatives car after he has included your name in his vehicle insurance. I think that you cannot take a rent a car with your international lisence. You have to carry you the English translation of your regonal license with your international license always
