I have the same question.i will be taking step 3 in feb-march.i'm waiting for my ecfmg certificate which shud be with me in december and then i'll register for step 3. btw coolbabe,i asked a program where i will be interviewing whether they have a deadline for step 3...and they said they donot.it's preferrablt to have ur step 3 result by match time but if the prog likes u...they won't make that an issue and will give u time till april.the pd also said that they will look at ur step 1 and 2 scores and no of attempts.if u had good scores on first attempt then the likelihood of u passing stap 3 is also higher..so they feel more comfy in signing u on even if ur result isn't out by the match.as everone knows the score for step 3 isn't that important.it's just mandatory to pass it(prequisite for the H1 visa)

Thanks smak and coolababe for bringing this issue up.... I am having the same problem.. I got my certificate today and was lucky to have a coule of interviews to attend in December and early January (9 altogether) so I think I wont be able to study much for step 3 hence I will like to take it in feb. or March. Do you guys think it will be advisable to talk about visa issues during interview so that we can know each hospital policies on this issue????

Yeah guys, I was wondering too but consider that if you get rejected before the match, then your score will effect there rank order list, so maybe take it if your sure youll pass, or have signed a prematch, etc....It seems like a dangerous path to persue.

depends on which visa u want if u want H1B give it asap pref b4 the ROL on NRMP,or if u want j1 u can give it b4 the end of first year of Residency. Coolbabe i think june is bit too late if ur planning for H1B,i think feb/march shud be ok i guess. GL nywayz.

yes katzung, june is too late and i do want H 1 visa... essesntially i think its safest to be done by feb so that result is out by march.... only question is ..how to manage interviews and studies....
