Guys about the 99 scores, I have seen it ALOT this year around interviews....and when I do I feel ashamed of my scores, but whats the real difference between 240 and 250? Im sure PD's and PC's see it, and I think that the events happening around your exam are more important than the scores, like Americans and that they have to go to school and rotations and ...while they take this exam. I have had a few directors tell me this, that my scores are not really bad...so I think other things take an emphasis, like USCE, and how well you would adapt into the system, thus the less emphasis on research, and more on other things....just a small thought...

BTW guys, Ive had 2 prematch offers, and Im serioulsy considering one, so maybe thatll empty 20 interview slots!wink

And BBB were not rich!!! AT least Im not, but thanks to credit cards, and to the fact that I have nightmares of not matching this year, not to mention nausea I get several times a day of the thought, we have to apply to lots of places where we think there is a chance of matching, I see it as in investment, my investment got me a 30% return....so I did good research I would think. But AMG's get the best return...close to 100% from what Ive seen here and there....and they apply to at least 10, to 30 programs on average, so to even up out odds, we have to apply 3 times as much as they do, thus why people apply to 100 programs, although I didnt, and thats just to make the odds more comparable...wink

good luck to u mmoghbelli, with ur credentials i think u ll get the best place u desired.scores do matter man.see this yr people in the 80 s are not gettin any interview calls thats cos the programs ve got a lot of applicants having 90 s.

  #23

Oh Moghbelli - you know that it was tongue in cheek! I've worked with resident long enough to know about the salaries! At some point, you will be.

Good luck with the prematch offers - hold out for the strongest that you can get. I'm certain that you will do well.

bbb - trying to combine common sense and humour into realistic answers, but not going to guess on anyone's chances of getting into a position....

  #24

76 applications per position ok, that narrows the number of positions in your residency to 20-45.bbb

Right guys look out for a programme - Univ affil community programme in the prefrebly east/may be medwest of US which sponsors H1B.
We can norrow the no of programmes down to 20-30 may be.

Ok guys quick post the name of programmes here now!!!sticking out tonguegrin

wink gottcha,bbb.

Thanks BBB for the hope of a doctor being rich one day!sad The question is wether Ill have my own teeth or be in dentures by then...

I think strongest is not always best though BBB, I have seen some of these big name programs, and some act very mean, and at one I didnt even see the program director, and the residents told me that we didnt see him until we matched either...and they try to intimidate you, or as there own residents were saying pimp you out!!! So theres a jungle out there, esp. when some people have a lot of air in there heads that needs to be emptied....

Guys from another friend I talked to last night who is a cheif resident, he said that this year they have 35% more applicants than the previous year, so maybe the US has relaxed immigration laws, because whatelse could have happened?

Katzung, Im sure shes in the East Coast, but which program is it....Even univeristy programs rarely have 25-35 spots, except maybe New York Presbatyrian Columbia-Cornell....I think shes at Maimonades although someone already thought that and she denied it....whereelse?

  #26

ok mmoghbelli,thanks buddy,

ok guys lets start east coast,i always had suspiciopn that she worked in a programme in east coast, look at the time when the activity starts and ends on netgrin.

maimonides is a strong possibility, though she denied itsticking out tongue.she said univ affiliated community programme.so look for those.

Oh yeah!! it is lot easier to get visa to US now than 2-3 years ago!!!Other day i read online that US needs to train 20-30 k more docs in next 5 years that might be the reason why immi rules have been relaxed.

ok guys come on,Oh so difficult to be in the shoes on Sherlock Holmes..

My two cents,

BBB is at Abington PA...:-) The PC there was most gentle in her rejections. The encouraging (if there is such a thing!) rejection letter , as posted on this forum sounds like something a BBB would write...:-)

what do y'all think?

  #30

possible possible gud guess work,so maimonides or abington - and both sent me rejection letters GRrrrrrrrrrrrgrin.

so, which is the cause(s) of this increase in the number of applications this year?

and do you think there will be the same or even worse next year?

  #39

I believe the cause of the increase in applications this year is the ease in which visa's are available. Of course the amount of people that write the USMLE could have skyrocketed but highly unlikely. It may fluctuate up and down every yr, but this dramatic increase from last year, suggests another etiology. Next yr should be worse, because of the trend, but you never know. Lots of 99's this yr taking up the interviews. Be prepared for a huge scramble after match.

Hi Coolbabe and chivas,

we're just having a bit of good natured fun.
If BBB wishes to remain anonymous, then the last thing we would like to do is invade her privacy. So, BBB, I hope no offense taken...:-)

Hope we interview with you though. Would be nice to spend three years of residency in a place where you are. Then maybe we get you familiar with Indian cuisine next!!

So, we cease and desist from all future detective work!!

regards to all!
