i went for my very first IM interview Cat. (out of 11) in a community hosp, and i am offered a pre-match. i have accepted the program, but i am feeling as if i did not do the right thing. Maybe i would have waited b4 signing, but they gave me no time. i felt as if i was pressured to sign. if i would have left it, i don't think the PD will have considered me anymore. the PC told me the number of pre-match positions are limited, and if i don't sign it immediately, there is no guarantee that it will be there later.

i am doubting whether i made the right decision or not.

anyone with similar experience

credentials.

where u got prematch? well if it was one of the programs u were considering than i think its fine. but if that was not ur prefered program than i think ur credentials r fine and u could have easily matched somewhere u really wanted to.

Personally, I think that you should have attended some other interviews before accepting this. But, you have made a decision - be happy with it. And cancel the rest of your interviews.

Good luck!

Hi Bobby congratulations on the match. Don't doubt yourself now. Thinking about this over and over is just going to set you back. Nothing good can come of it now. But please help all the rest of the applicants out by cancelling your interviews. Alot of people don't even have a single interview. Also can you tell me what kinds of questions the PD asked you? Thanks, smile and celebrate!!

bbb & coolbabe r right , if someone cleared out hisher decision, pls - cancel the further interviews. Here is an example of rejection.. and the reason you can understand:

Thank you for your interest in the Johns Hopkins Bayview Residency Program in Internal Medicine. Your application has been reviewed by the Intern Selection Committee and by the Program Directors. Unfortunately we are not able to offer you an interview for a residency position in our program. While I know you will be disappointed by this decision, please understand that we receive over 1,200 applications for only 18 first-year positions and that many bright and talented individuals are declined an interview here.

i ve yet to hear from bayview

u need not cancel airtickets but can save the money spent on ticktes for future travel and the funds can be used to purchase the tickets for future journeys and u wont loose a pence,i have done it b4 so dont worry.

but please do cancel your other interviews, please.

and with those funds u can buy tickets for anyone in any name.

GL and all the best bobby.no more tension for you.

Well congrats bobby!!!! wow gr8 buttttttttt is a big but what i think and the way i see,,, i think you had made a decision in hurry..

as your first interview what i belive it must be the program u don't want to end up thats y u schedule it early or the first...

your scores are good enough and above all you donot reqd visa,, so signing the program early is not much of a benifit for you....( you had EAD many ppl make these kind of decision when they reqd visa, and worry about the lengthy process of visa,, you don't have that issue)

you have good number of calls, but i don't know the quality of them, if some of them are average university programs, and u signed a pre-match what u yourself think was forced( PD and PC put you in catch22 situation and play the psychological game with you),, i don't know how good is the program you signed (you didn't mention the name i don't know y) then man is definetly not a good decision.

I know ppl with ead and those who don't reqd visa with average scores and less than yours match in to university programs...

Man i want to be honest with you,,,, don't took it personally,, ppl like me really intimidate to sign contracts like that because we reqd visa H1,, but u in far better position...

well once the decision is taken you cannot do much about that,, so be happy,, i am writing this only that if some one else in the same sitiuation like you don't make wrong decision..... i want to cut short ( i want to add many things but i am cutting short)

the reason you can give to the pd and pc is that this is your first interview, you definetly want to signed them, but want to go through with the interviews you already buy ticket and then will signed (in 3weeks) If they are really geninune with you they should have give you that much time..

Well all these are my thinking,, not necessarily everybody accept that or have same opinion,, but bbb is right do cancelled your interivew noww...

Once youva made a decision, be it a right or wrong one, accept it, as theres nothing you can do, and try to find the bright side of things, like getting some of your travel money back. I got intimidated also, and someone gave me an hour for a prematch, and I was in a rental car on the way to the airport, but I didnt sign, and I think I did the right thing. Maybe if I dont macth Ill curse myself, but we have to accept the facts of life, and a garunteed good spot is better than 10 possible Ive League spots.

So how bout helping the rest of us out now that we've all taken the time to give you a hand? Wont hurt you any to let everyone know the kinds of things you discussed during your interview.nod

Thank you all guys for your advice. i am trying to be happy with the decision i had already made. the program was not my first choice, being my first interview i went there just to see what an interview is like, but i was offered a pre-match by the PD. i was not expecting it, so i was somehow confused on what to do.

In doubt, i signed the contract hoping to have made a good decision. there is a proverb that says "a bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush".

during that same moment, i remember what a colleague told me that a friend refused pre-match seven years ago, and never matched till today. i was so scared of the possibility of staying home one year.

Ryan: about what they asked me? well, for that particular program, i did a lot of research about it. i read much about the PD and i got to know what field of medicine he is interested in. i knew much about the program and the PD, using the internet. i had never seen him before or had any contact with him before my interview date.

during the interview, it seems like i and the PD had a common interest. so we talk about many other things not related to medicine. i felt some how privileged from the information i was having from him. but that medical school was not among my top choices. so that is what has been worrying me behind my mind.

i had interviews at

Texas tech, Odessa. ( i went to this interview because i had already bought my air ticket and paid for my hotel and since i used travelocity to make the purchase, i had no refund. At Texas tech, Odessa they give up to 250 dollars as a compensation for expenses so i went to the interview because of the 250k. comparing Texas tech with my first interview, i am happy that i accepted the pre-match.
