Hi apurva,

As far as I know GSM works world wide.

But the irony is here we usually buy a cell phone along with a contract with some networking for example sprint...so that u can get some discount on the phones.

Lately the so called prepaid system is getting popular something like "go phone" (I dont know if I got the name right)

If u r planning to go for a contract for one or two years then I think Sprint together with nextel is the best bet.It has free incoming calls and as far as I know the connectivity is very very good.

This info is as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong.

GSM mobile will work only with a GSM network
Same with CDMA...........CDMA is better then GSM taking into consideration of voice clarity etc
