5 interviews, 10 rejections, 3 on waiting list (I called them), and 10 nothing from them whatsoever (I did not call them yet). But what more concerned me is the preliminary program. I applied to 25 transitional, 10 IM-pre, and 20 surgery-pre, and only got 1 IM-pre and 1 surgery-pre interviews (22 rejections). Personal info: IMG (1997 graduate), US PhD (2002) and decent research papers (not anesthesia related). Keep working in university now. 99/97/pass (1/CK/CS). Green card. What about u guys? Any info will be appreciated.

Hi mghanes, Could you please tell me how did you do the personal statement for the IM Preliminary Programs? I think I had the wrong approach this year, I applied only to categorical Aesthesiology programs and Family Practice, and very late on top of everything else, and I have no interviews so far, I'm really depressed! Anyway the best of luck to you, and please answer me when you have some time. Thank you. A.

1. For personal statement, I used the same body for both anesthesiology and preliminary applications except for the last paragraph. In the last paragraph I outlined my plan for residency training: for anesth. I emphasized on hands-on experience and looking for the subspecialty that suits my the best, blah, blah; for preliminary, I emphasized on getting a broad knowledge base and blah blah to prepare me for the further training in anesth. 2. Although it seems that this year the competition is really tough (I am still not sure why), some programs are still reviewing and may send out the last batch of invitations next week. We still have hope. 3. Even with the worst scenario, we do not get matched into anesth this year, if we can get into some preliminary program and do well, we will have a better chance for next year. So do not give up easily. Best wishes to you all.

Hello there mghanes, Thank you for answering my post! I am not giving up, never! It is just that it's very disheartening, after all the work, after getting my hopes up high and seeing myself starting residency this upcoming summer, to accept the possibility that I might be left out this time around! Well, we'll see! There's still the scramble! Best of luck to you, and I hope you'll match in the program of your choice! A.
