Hi, Got my result yesterday, Step 1 score of 97 (241) with consistent performance in all subject areas. I came out of my exam centre thinking that the NBME 1 & 2 questions had been easier and shorter than the actual exam, which they were. But my point is that NBME did predict my score accurately - I had 520 (90) and 570 (95) scores in NBME part 2 & 1. So, when it is time to decide whether you are accurately prepared or not, take one or both NBME exams, if you perform consistently in both, chances are you will do the same in the exam. When it comes to subject areas, you must study the following very well: 1. Cell and molecular biology 2. Pharmacology 3. physiology 4. Neuroanatomy I work full time and had been preparing since March. It is tough to study alongside, but if you are consistent, you will do well. All the best,

congratulations!! I will take my step1 exam at the end of Dec. When do you think I should take the NBME 1 and 2? 1 month or 1 week before? 1 m before may be too early since I still have a month to study. What is your score on Q bank? How do you think its correlation to your real score? Thanks

Also , I wonder how did you prepare for cell and Mol biology? is Kaplan notes + Q bank, Q book enough? How many Qs did you get on Cell & Mol biology? How many on Neuroanotomy ? Thanks

To Zzpearl, thanks. pls see my post on Exam score thread for time before exam that I took NBME. I think it would be ideal to take NBME 1 one month in advance, so you can smooth out the wrinkles in your preparation. If you do well (based on your own standard) on that, a good time would be to give NBME 2 one week to 10 days before the exam. My Q bank score was around 65% (did 90% of questions). sag

karyosome, I got 241/300. So, getting 40 questions right per block should get you 95 and beyond.

karusmle, cell and molecular biology in KAPLAN is not enough. You need some supplementation. I am an FMG (no concurrent medical school teaching), so I used High Yield and Harper. Even then, you will see some questions that you will have to guess!

farjoudi, I would suggest you read kaplan notes, revise textbooks you read while in medical school, lay emphasis on Neuroanatomy and cell biology. If you have time, make quick revisions to Robbins Path, Katzung pharmac, Harper's biochem. You have to be selective on your reading of Katzung and Harper, though.

Thanks , sag16. I just finished myQ bank (100%) with cumulative score 65%. I was disappointed because I saw so many people got high 90 in the exam finished Qbank with over 70% (Exam score thread ). I doubted my chance to score higher than 90 in end of Dec. But Now I feel there is still hope. When did you finish your Qbank? How long before you take NBME1? I hesitate to take NBME too early becasue I do not want to discourage myself. I may improve more later. I am studying for my PhD now , had Mol & Cell biology graduate classes before, not focused on Medicine though. Do you think I still should read HighYield Mol& cell bio, besides Kaplan? HOw many Qs did you get on Mol& Cell bio on the real Exam? How difficult are they like? Can you give an example? Thanks a lot!

ZZPearl, the molecular and cell biology questions are not very tough, same as the rest of the exam. The point is that you should know to click on the right choice, when you have narrowed your possible choices to two. This requires somewhat in-depth reading, the uniqueness or personality of each, for example, inter-leukin. I think you will get in the high 90's given that 6 weeks before the exam you are scoring 65% or above in Qbank. Make sure you go through the questions one time more. Don't worry, you will do well! Good luck...

sag16, How did you do the 2nd time Q bank? I am thinking to do those incorrect Qs in subject -wise since the goal is to solidfy my knowledge instead to evaluate myself.

Hey, Sag 16, Congratulations! Could you tell more about Neuroanatomy? Did you get many qs? What book would you recommend the best?

ALFA, I got good amount of questions on Neuroanatomy. Do cranial nerves well. May be grab hold of an atlas to better understand the anatomy of the brain. I did so. I do not remember the name. I checked it out of the library. You could also try High Yield. Good luck!
