this is one of its functions as i am aware of:

there are certain receptorsin the body that are linked with tyrosine kinase.

when ligands bind to these receptors, tyrosine kinase autophosphorylates tyrosine (within the receptor) into phosphotyrosine.

this causes many intracelluar proteins to bind with phosphorylated tyrosine. these proteins have a SH2 domain.

when these proteins bind to phosphorylated tyrosine, their SH2 interacts with Sos proteins.

Sos proteins then actives Ras protein (from ras oncogene) by making ras to bind to GTP.

Activated Ras protein activates Raf protein kinase.

Raf protein kinase activates MAP kinase (by phosphorylating tyrosine & threonine)

MAP kinase enters the nucleus and phosphorylates gene regulatory products. these causes tanscription of a gene.
