Cauda equina syndrome is any condition causing compression of the cauda equina in the spinal canal. One such cause for this is lumbar spinal stenosis which is due to degenerative changes occuring in the vertebrae of the lumbar spine. While lumbar spinal stenosis refers to this specific degenrative condition, cauda equina syndrome may be caused by a number of conditions causing compression (tumours, 2ry deposits, epidural abscesses etc...) and one such cause is lumbar spinal stenosis.
