I just want to know what is the best way to go about doing the NBME 1. After I purchase it . .confused

1) How many days access do I have on it?

2) How many questions are there? Is it a timed test? If so, how much time do they give you to answer all the questions?

3) Are there explanations that I have to read like the Qbank? Am confused. Some people say there are, some people say they just give you the correct letter without explanations.

4) For those who have already taken it, what is the best thing to do? Make notes on the questions given?

5) How long does it usually take to review the answers and explanations?

I hope somebody will be kind enough to guide me so that I can maximize my time with it cuz I plan to purchase it soon.

Thanks.

There are Form 1, 2, and 3 available now. You can buy them seperately.

Each form has 200 questions (4 blocks). If you do it standard-paced, you will have one hour for each block. If you do it self-paced, you will have four hours for each block.

There are no correct answers, or explanations available. You should take notes and try to find the anwers by yourself.

Check the website: www.nbme.org

Hi Blueberry. Thanks for answering my questions! I have one more question to ask. I went to the link and it says I have 20 days of access to it after I purchase it. In that 20 days, can I take the same 200 questions over and over again or will there be different 200 questions given everytime I want to retake the test. I didn't get that part. Or, I can't retake the test so why do I have 20 days of access to it? Just to have time to look for the answers to the questions? This is the one that really confuses me.

You can see the questions only ONCE! You cannot go back and review the questions after you finish each block!

You will get exactly the same 200 questions as everybody else.

You can choose any 4 hours within 20 days to finish each form.

I suggest you do it "standard paced" as in the real exam, and take very short notes at the same time.

Blueberry, thank you so much for clearing this whole thing. I think will just do the self paced though because I don't think I can do short notes in just an hour. I know self paced is 4 hours for each block. I plan to just do it for four days straight but only during the mornings (1 block per day). I already did the simulated Kaplan and I think I'm pretty okay with being on time when it comes to 50 questions so don't really need to do the NBME for time practice purposes. Thanks again!!! I hope am doing the right thing. smiling face

hi blueberry,
if I do the nmbe do I get my score after I finish to know how I did?

  #7

yeah,

you will get a score, and a report of your performance in different subjects and systems. Therefore, you will know your weak point, and work on it.

ok, one more ques.....NBME 1 has 4 blocks...so we can have breaks in b/w the 4 blocks? or do we have to finish all 4 in 4 hrs once we start?

for NBME, you can pause at any time while you are doing your block.REMEMBER THIS OPTION IS NOT FOR THE REAL TEST. you will not going to find any of these option to pause in real test.My advice is do one one hr and take five minutes brk in b/w, You should pause it ater every block, bcz the next block will start right away.

Its only 4 blocks so you should try to do it as exam to prepare your self better.

You can finish it with in 20 days when you have started or 30 days after you buy it, but best option is to do it as exam style, so that you can see your actual performance.
