Should we do MMSE in every psychiatry case? I feel that I don't have enough time to finish MMSE!!

please any one reply + one more thing how one should councel patient about D/D in medical terminology? or how ? e.g disc proloapse/sciatica how can one say to patient

I will do MM+ADL/IADL for any psychiatry case to be on the safe side. What is D/D, the differential? You are not suppose to use any medical terminology or if you want to name the disease explain it first and then name it e.g. "Mr. Smith, I think you may have an infection in your lung called pneumonia ... " About disc prolapse or sciatica you can say that one of the soft connections between the bones that forms the spine has moved and presses the nerve that goes to the legs etc. Hope this helps.

I think u have to read the stem and determine what they want u to do. If its just to take history just take the history. If it says history and examination then do Mental Status exam as well. Its written very well in Kaplan and u'll see that most of its components u can determine while taking the history. U just have to ask a few questions and u'll be done with the MSE. It takes a little practice but its doable.
