I am a 3rd year medical student well armed with a dream and yet not knowing how to proceed towards making it true. . .I thought of preparing for step 1.But before this I could really use some more info about these exams, the books I need to buy and where from, stuff like this. . .Is there anybody not that busy and willing to help me with some clues? Starting up is always harder. . .if there are any romanian students who'd like to share their experience with me, I'd be really glad. . .

You take care as well Starting the spring of 2004 TOEFL is no longer a requirement for U.S. medical license, so do not worry about it anymore. Basically, visa is provided by the hospital that hires you after you passed Step 1, step 2 and CSA ... Regarding the "First Aid" book, you should be able to buy it from the any bookstore that keeps step books or if you have a credit card, you can order it on line from www.amazon.com or www.bn.com etc. However, if you plan to take step 2 first, you should try to borrow a copy from somewhere, "Firt Aid for Step 2" it is too expensive (about $40) for its value. Beside choosing the books for step, ii was not useful for me at all.

Hi! I'm wondering if the field you want to choose to make your residency in, depends of the scores you pass the Steps with. ...in Romania, if your scores are low you stand no chance to make a future in surgery, for example ( because of the competition, of course),So you need high scores for the most "wanted" fields. . .how does it work in the U.S?

I heard smth about the issue that concerns you .They say it doesn't matter what score you get when you choose some particular field to make your recidency .The most important thing is where you come from.If you are an american citizen , you can become a surgeon but if you're romanian , you'll be an internist or a GP, most likely.
