Hi , I am preparing for step 1 exam. My seniour adviced me to change my plab because Its very difficult to get usa visa. I am much disappounted and has fear of visa refusal. plz tell me about this. All the ppl that pass steps exam can get usa visa or not? thanks

well its difficult to get viza, but once your are in you do have job. For plab my cousin is very depressed their in England. Working for almost more then a year volunteer and still didn't get any job. and he is thinking for usmle and he also asked his brother to do usmle.

My friend was also had a fear for getting a viza but now he is here in residency in New York.

their are about 600-700 applicants for one single seat in england. PLs think b4 taking a decision.

Is there any example in recent year that a person get between 80 - 90 % step score and got visa? plus what extra should be done beside step exam in order to get usa visa? thanks

  #5

Yes I know a person who got 90 and got visa for CS exam. Please dont lose hope, keep trying and leave rest on God.

Answer to the second question what extra should be done?...........find a US citizen girl and get marriedcool

haha, good one sasim.

well, aamir, there are sevral ways you can try to get your visa, you can apply for CS exam or you can apply for some research , observership or electives, but remember one thing, which i have always been emphasizing to my peers, do not take your career decision based on visa issues, trust me friend you have a lot more to worry about, and i absolutely agree with shakeels, that once you are in for it, there's no stopping, whether its PLAB or USMLE.

good luck

amir am in uk and have been working there for a while. If you play gamble come to UK as at the moment situation is horrible.

But i feel coming to uk and if you find a decent 1-2 yr job you are more likely to get a visa.

after all you'll be earning twice as much as a SHO than resident.

Overall this whole US visa is a gamble and i have no clue what their bloody criteria are????

Ujala..the US immigration people are not FOOLS. They know everything. Every year people come on J-1 visa and no body goes back to their country (may be 1 in 1000). J1 visa has its own limitations. After your assigned period you have to take J1 wiaver to stay in the country. You will have to transfer it to H1visa then u can stay for another 6 years.During this period your company/hospital should file greencard for you or else YOU Get married with a US citizen to become a permanent resident. So it is not that easy..but luckily some US states have great need of doctors and you can find a hospital in that area who will readily sponsor you an H1 visa.

  #16

hmmm.....but how to GET IN USA in the first place? shall we try for J1 or an H1 ???

Try to give step 3 then you can apply for H1 which is the best. But you have to clear step 3, then you are eligible. Bcz it convert into green card, not J 1. In J1 you can waiver but its not 100% sure that you would get it or no, if not then you have to go back after 7 yrsand after that I don;t know!!!.

  #18

Yes, Smumtaz is right. H1 is better option..but i would like to correct that it is not converted into Greencard by itself...the hospital must be willing to sponsor you a green card while you are on H1. Greencard cant be sponsored on J1-visa.Filing greencard is a separate process but once it is filed and you get the Labour certification you can live on H1 beyound the limit of 6 years untill your greencard arrives. There is recently a new process called "PERM" in which you can get Labour certification within 3 months of applying for greencard so u get your GC very quickly..but I dont know anyone who used the "PERM" procedure so cant comment much on it.

i dont think the MLE scores have anything to do with the outcome of one's visa application. i applied recently for a US visitor's visa. the consul in manila just asked for my ECFMG letter and scheduling permit and confirmation notice for my CS exam in LA this december 15. then he granted me the visa. he didn't ask for bank statements, land titles, certificate of employment, etc.

i guess you just have to show the consul that you are going there only for the reason you stated in your application. it's a good thing that visa denials of IMGs are quite rare here in manila.

My brother living in states (he is on F1 visa )he advise me to get admission in usa community collage in some kind of associate degree like "radiology " or "sonography" then u will get F1 visa ...it will give u time to study (for steps)and u can earn as well after completion of your course ..then if u get the job on the basis of ur technicion course u can change ur visa from F1..my question is ..is this the right thing to do to get in states...
