Hi! Zhoreto! I graduated from Medical University - Sofia in 1999. I am currently in Schaumburg-a Chicago suburb. Believe me there are a lot of bulgarian medical graduates who are currently MDs in USA and many who are preparing for ECFMG certification-you are not alone! I am studying for step 1 now-the exam date is next month. If you or somebody else have some questions I will be happy to help! Good Luck on the exam!

Im an indian student, and I study in Medical University of Sofia. I am planning to write the usmle , but i dont think bulgaria has a test center? I would like to interact with other doctors who plan to write or already have written the usmle exam. OK, good day to everyone here

Unfortuanely you are right! No center in Sofia! Currently you have 2 best options: Thessaloniki, Greece and Bucharest, Roumania! I've been in Thessaloniki for Step 1 but this time I'll go to Bucharest - it's cheeper and they don't have Olympic games this year! The center in Thessaloniki is great, only 5-6 people at a time, it's in the center of the city!

hi, Sorry for the dalay of my answer! I've been very busy last month - the step 2 exam is in a couple of weeks and I had some troubles to cope with... I'll come to Sofia in the end of August so we can meet and talk if you like... I can give you some stuff on CD for the Steps too... till then... good luck studying! P.S. To start with - "First Aid for USMLE STEP 1" is the BIBLE for Step 1!!! Read it cover to cover, make your best to find latest edition, and follow the recomendations for study and materials... Great book! written by IMG's for IMGS I've heard about kaplan but did only Q-bank and a sample exam...could not find notes...if you show me I'll tell you if it's worth... By the way - do NOT be affraid of this exam - you HAVE to study hard but the exam is easy! I've been in the library of medical university in Sofia - they have some stuff there but rather old - but some things might be of help in preparation... I'll drop some lines when I get back from Romania... untill then - GOOD LUCK!

hi, I am leaving in a couple of days but I saw your replies.... If you have graduated recently or are a student - DON"T WASTE your PRECIOUS TIME on BIG books! Do the reviews!!!! LIKE NMS, BRS (board review series), etc. Just follow the guidelines in First Aid on chosing materials - For anatomy I did BRS Anatomy and BRS Neuroanatomy - second one is a bid hard to read but important questions like CN palsies, congenital defects, spinal tracts and injuries are VERY important for STEP1 - I mean they test a few things from this field but if you want to score above 90 (which you surely do as you are FMG ) you have to know not only hard-core materia(Pathology, Micro, Pharmac, Anatomy, Biochem, etc.), but also most important from low-yield areas like Behavioural scinece, Embriology, Histology(esp. classics like reed-sternberg cells in Hodgkin), BIOSTATISTICS - usually there is enough in First aid but you might just read a small (NMS,BRS) review on these topics without spending too much time on it - just to complement your knowledge on this areas! For example for Embryo - you should know what Fallot Tetralogy is, which is most common congenital heart defect, what is Hirshprung, how do neural tube defects present and things like this I'll write more when i get back from romania! See you soon!

Hi everybody, My name is Valeri and I am living now in Los Angeles.I passed Step 1 and 2 and i will be on Step2 CS at November.I am so glad from discovering of this forum and from the fact that a lot a people are preparing for this exams. In L.A. I know just 3 physicians from BG and I will be glad to exchange information with everybody. My advice for Step 1 and 2-work just with questions(a lot .at least 7000-10000). For Step 1-Kaplan Q bank,NMS series. Step 2-www.usmleworld.com-is the best. I sold my Kaplan lectures but I have a friend who still has them. But this is just for reviewing then just questions.Believe me the american students are preparing on this way and they make good scores. Bye for now, I am going to work but I will check this forum regularly. Again I wish a lot a success to all BG physicians and do not desperate(US physicians are not smarter than us).

You can try www.med-lib.med.utah.edu/medpath -around 2000 q-free. or www.nmbe.org.(oficial web-site of national medical examiners of USA). This is most close format of questions to real exam(my personal experiense) but it is expensive-200q for 45$.If you have 500 points there it means 85 on real exam. Good luck.
