Hi all, I am a medical graduate from China. I am going to apply for step 1 exam. I have several questions and would like to get some feedback from all of you. 1. I'd like to know can I take the exam if I submitted copies of my diploma but it hadn't been verified by my medical school? (I'd like to apply for January 2006) 2. Do you guys also include transcripts with your initial submission? I know ECFMG booklet said you don't need to submitted medical school transcript at the initial application step. However, I'd like to know whether that will help the verification process since it could be very lengthy. Anybody have done that before? Any suggestions? experience? Thank you for your help!

Well your diploma copy will be sent to your Medical School for verification with your photograph. And regarding transcript, you would need to submitt it with your initial submission, Now it is necessary with your diploma, even your diploma and transcript should have the same first and last name as you have submitted in your application. Your transcript can be any thing like your hourly sheet for each subjects, or even your marks sheet(consolidated or issued to you for each year separately). Now this is mandatory from FEB 2004.

You can take the exam if your diploma had not been verified...they will send you the scheduling permit...but it needs to be verified for them to report your scores....as far as taking the exam is concerned...you'd be able to do that... From what i know...you donot need to send your transcripts with the initial submission/ application(i didnot send mine..and got my scheduling permit withing ten days of application)...along with form 186,187,344 and 345...you are required to submit copies of your diploma or a letter from the dean if your diploma had not yet been issued...the ECFMG contacts your med school for the transcripts and verification and if your school doesnot comply/takes time...then you have to send in the transcripts yourself...

Thank you for responding to my question! cyra and shakeels: I have no idea whether my med school will response to request for transcripts. I need to pay to get the official transcripts from my school. So do you think it will be easier for me to just send in copies of my transcripts and let ECFMG send in diploma and transcripts for verification at the same time. DO you think ECFMG will do that? Thanks,
