I am An IMG . A friend of mine got 99/98 and he got in the match last year and started Internal medicine.Though, he told me that he was asked for an interview only in one University Hospital. Is it possible or he is just fooling about his grades? Is it so hard nowadays to get a descent position. I ve got step1: 88/step 2: 92. Do I have any chance with these scores to start pediatrics? I am thinking taking step 3 in order to increase my chances. Does anybody you know started peds with scores like these?

the fact is that general surgery and internal medicine which used to be easy to get in the past are also becoming competitive because there are more medical schools opening in the US meaning more US graduates. you may have a chance at some schools in pediatrics. pediatrics is still fairly uncompetitive. but dont keep hopes on a good program. good programs in pediatrics and even family medicine are very tough.
