a patient with chronic renal failure, was having a gfr of 20 ml/min

and on xray, decreased bone density, what is the cause of the low bone density,

is it because of excessice phosphate in the body, as phospahate not being lost or is it the decrease in vitamin d?

and is the decreased bone density osteomalacia or osteoporosis

bone diseases due to renal problems come under the context of renal osteodystrophy which includes:

a)osteomalacia - inability to activate vit D

b)osteoporosis

c)sec. hyperparathyroidism(low Ca++) leading to excessive resorption, just like that in von-recklinghausen disease.
