I dont know what I do the whole day- am sitting with my books but when I ask myself what I have learnt at the end of the day, I draw a blank! The weekend is here already.  I need two more days to complete Peds but it is mostly because I took a day off for Gyne after I got bored with Peds. Must finish by sunday latest or move on to surgery anyways.

I finished peds. Thanks to God, I have met two goals in a row and it has been good for my morale. Still taking one day at a time and praying that Poosh and everyone will stay in optimal health atleast until I complete CK. Just about 5 weeks more. Will start Surgery later in the evening.

Spoke a little too soon there I guess. Started Psych with Bio statistics part, and got struck down by a case of the "blahs". Just could not study. Dont know why! Health- check, Peace and quiet- check, Time- check, distractions- none discernable. So why couldnt I study yesterday? I honestly dont know. Was feeling very sleepy but was determined not to sleep from 8am to 5pm, so ended up doing last block of surgery questions from Q book (72%). Read some recreational stuff. Played with Poosh in the evening.
Just 5 more days for my intensive QA session. Change of strategy needed as I have not completed surgery and there is no way I can finish Psych today. So I have planned to take things slower. Concenterate only on completing surgery as thoroughly as I would for the exam, and then do as much Psych as possible in good detail. I wont be able to revise OBG, IM or peds then, and that will just have to wait. I have neglected surgery and Psych long enough.
Going to start with prayer and dedication of today's efforts to the Almighty.

Hope you get surgery and psych out of the way soon.When do you plan on taking the NBME?

Hi cyra, Thank you for keeping track of my progress.
I hope to give NBME on the 1st of February. Aiming for over 550 on this one. If I manage to get as much, then I will start my final revision  , if I dont, I will postpone my exam . Please keep me in your prayers.

Hi Cyra, once again, congratulations on your great scores on step one.
Yesterday I did Biostats. Tried to refresh my memory by going through Step one Kaplan book and HY biostatistics which I had done for step one. Everything seems unfamiliar now! I was feeling quite lost. Nodded off while studying and even had a dream!
I have revised Surgery, Psych and OBG. Started with UW and Crush and completed with Kaplan for each topic, but still not happy with the depth of my study. Though I have gone through all of it atelast 3 times, so much of it looks new. So tempted to postpone my exam right now!

Completed 4 Psychiatry question blocks- two from step 2 and two from the step 3 Q books. Scored 84, 80, 74 and 62 respectively, with an average of about 74%. Realized that I am weak in Pshychopharmacological drug interations. Will work on that. Tomorrow I hope to work on Surgery questions.

Yesterday at about 10pm, I had my first real panic attack for CK. I desperately wanted to postpone my exam to the last possible date in my 3 month eligiblity period which ends on 28th of Feb. However, the best I could do was postpone from 23rd to 24th. I was disappointed that February has only 28 days. Why couldnt there be 31 days like every other month or atleast 30, maybe 29 even this year! Seems even funny in hindsight, but I was quite agitated yesterday.
I completed the Q book questions for surgery and OBG and the scores are not looking nice. They are barely touching 70s. From the exam score thread, I see that most people that score in the high 90s have Q book scores in 80s. I am hoping to get into a highly competetive residency with a weak resume and unimpressive step one scores. A fabulous step two score may be the only saving grace in it.
I havent given up hope- praying and working as much as I can (or am I?). Yet to do Peds and IM questions in the Q book, and if I dont meet my expectations there, then it is probably best for me to extend my eligibility period.

Hi Cyra. Poosh and I have been sick. Cold, fever- the works. Friday, Saturday and Sunday I couldnt do anything. Yesterday was better, but today I am feeling more like myself. I was quite depressed, still am to a certain extent. Dont know where to pick up from. hmmm. Still want to try to give NBME form one on the 4th of Feb latest. Lets see. Made a plan B too- I think I will postpone my exam to 15th of March if I am not ready for Feb 24th.
I hope I am doing my best under the circumstances, and pray that the Almighty will bless and richly reward all our efforts. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.

So, I took NBME today. Got 510 (correlates with 220/89). Far less than I was aiming for. From the score threads it looks like folks score best in form one but the second one correlates better with the real exam score. I hope to give form two NBME on 14th Feb and score over 600 on that. Then I will make up my mind about CK on 24th.

LisaM...I am sure working on your weaknesses as pointed by this form will get you over 600 on the second one.Keep working away...it will all be good!

I am posting in my journal after almost a month. What a time it has been! I managed to finish CK on the 24th of Feb. I scored only 530 (and not 600 according to my plan) in the second NBME a week before my exam. I faced incredible personal hardships during the last 3 weeks leading up to my exam and I did not want to put my loving family through more distress. So, I just went ahead and got it over with though I know my score will be a lot lower than I had amied for when I started preparation.
I was not able to log on to the forum from my home computer for some reason. After a long time, I am back in the library today and am happy to be able to read my PMs and also post in my journal. I want to thank everyone that has encouraged me by posting here and by sending PMs. Though I was studying from home all by myself, I felt like part of a big community with the same goal and that helped sustain my morale.
I still have nightmares about the exam, and am so relieved that it is over. The sleepless nights, the endless revisions and disappointments are hopefully a thing of the past. Now I get to play with Poosh, my darling daughter. She is surprised that I am spending so much time with her and she has called me "daddy" accidentally quite a few times because she is so used to saying "no daddy" "please daddy" "some more daddy" etc. She quickly makes the switch to "no mummy" (the NO part does not change) and I finally feel like a loving mother and not just a person who feeds her and gets her dressed up.
I am going to give CS on the 11th of April. After not studying at all till now, I have started looking for materials and maybe a study partner who is also planning to take CS around the same time.
Now it is entirely upto God and I do hope I get a good score in CK.

I got my scores- 226/92. My family and I are quite happy. I owe a lot to this forum and the friends I found here. Very special thanks to kingsofke for his guidance, teaching and for answering all queries with patience. Also thanks to everyone who checked on my progress and took time to encourage me by posting in this journal and by sending PMs. Good luck to you all! I will post details of my preparation and score thread soon.
