Dear bbb, i came to know that some programs can manage to get pgy-1 waiver if we have 3 yr postgraduate experience else where. would getting waiver be very difficult? would it create any problems for fellowship? would it create problems moving between different states? your help would be muchh appreciated

although unrelated, i heard youre not allowed to practise in the USA as an attending/private practise if you finish residency doing a PGY-1 waiver. since i noticed you took your step 3 (which i assume is for H1b), you might wanna check on that. do correct me if im wrong on this.

I have heard in the past that a program director can recommend that you get advanced credit, but it's up to the ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine) for a final say. The guidelines state that you have to have 36 months of training in an ACGME accredited program to be eligible for the ABIM certifying board exams. Residents can ask a program director for credit, the PD would have to write the ABIM (if they agree), the resident would have to pay for the ABIM to review their file, the resident would have to show near perfect scores on different tests, etc. And it's not guaranteed!!!
