If the gastronemius muscle is removed from the Body, it will achieve a kength:

A. Greater than it had inthe body, because it is more relaxed
B. shorter than it had in the body, because it is less relaxed
C.Shorter than it had in the body, because of its elastic charcterstics
D.the same as it had in the body

answer is A

i thought it should be shorter than it had in the body, as muscles are already pre-stretched in their attachment, close to Lo.

  #4

yeah ,it should be B

Yes it should be B, dont know why did they give answer in Kaplan notes as 'C', may be prining error, but still the explanation they provided is correct which goes with ans 'B'!

So learned that the answers given in Kaplan may not be 100% correct, always.

Thanks for the answer drk1980 and thanks for confirming it ssrpk!

no the ans is c, as when the muscle is in the body, it is under passive tension which pulls the muscle to Lo, all skeletal muscles in our body re stretched to Lo. ie the length where all the actin and myosin re forming cross bridges with each other

now when u remove the muscle from the body, it will lose the passive tension and hence it be more relaxed and hnce choice b is wrong,

hence now choice c stands right as the muscle has become shorter as it lost its passive tension and this is because it has elastic characters

so kaplan is not wrong, hope it helps

You r very much correct sturge_weber!!

I read it again and again, and kaplan is also correct sorry for the confusion!

Yes I understand that, if the muscle is removed from the body, preload is eliminated, muscle will shorten means it does not contract, notit is less relaxed rather more relaxed but has shorten in its length ,due to its elastic characterstics!

Thanks for the explanation sturge_weber

Dont know why I did not understand thenrolling eyes!!

thanks sturge_weber for clearing that up!!
