A 72-year-old man has a 2-year history of hypertension. He is otherwise asymptomatic. His blood pressure both at home and in your office has been approximately 180/85 mm Hg. On physical examination, no other abnormalities are apparent. The results of laboratory studies, including serum urea nitrogen, serum creatinine, and plasma glucose, are within normal limits.
Your prescription should be:
A) Continued blood pressure monitoring only
(B) Blood pressure monitoring and chlorthalidone
(C) Blood pressure monitoring and enalapril
(D) Blood pressure monitoring and diltiazem
(E) Blood pressure monitoring and prazosin

I would go with b, chlorthalidone is a thiazide diuretic, and in a elderly pt with systolic htn it is often a first line therapy.
