In a standard british book, a study is mentioned which concludes that if we maintain the Hb 7-9 vs 10-12 g% (through transfusion of blood) in patients admitted in ICU, mortality is better in 7-9 group, strange????? in icu there might be a patient with MI who theoratically should benifit from a better Hb level. anybody have some idea about it? my question is what is the recomnedation of Hb level in ICU patients.

I've read somewhere that the main aim is to keep Hct above 30% in any setting, if it's not, we can mandate packed cell transfusions
