lets go step by step
1)you have 3 practice ccs cases on usmle cd
we'll take two out of them- pneumothorax one(from now we'll call it case A) and joint pain one (from now we'll call it Case B)
2) Read the tutorial over and over again
3)CCS is similar to how you manage patient in real life instead of doing physically you type and the software does it for you.I know you can go through the tutorial but i'll summarise
CCS has important sections
a) initial History
b) Physical exam (you'll come back to this in between later to see how patient is doin)
c) orders
d)Location(Do not forget about this)
e) CLOCK you have to be thorough in using the clock this is what will execute your order
if you order physical or interval history Clock is advanced automatically for all others you have to advance it.
In adavncing the clock there are different ways.st option gives you to see patient on a a particular day and time.I Found this option difficult as you have to see where you are in the virtual time.2nd option is to see the patient IN so many hours and minutes. if found this easier option like say when you see a chest apin and order troponin,next to the order it'll show you when it'll be ready say you ordered at 10.01 am a

back from the long post take Ward round.

10.01 am (ur current time will be when u oredered so 10.01 am ) and next to it u'll see when the result will be ready say 10.29 am.click on the clock and select see in select 30 min.After clock adavnces you'll see the result and can act on it.So for each important test advance clock 1-2 min after due time.But for cuiltures etc see the patient next day if stable and you'll get your results in between.
In that way your time frame would be easier in hrs or days from the moment you see the patient first.
always stabilise your patient and then move.whenever you move software wil give you option to review your oreders go through them carefully.
Coming back to how to practice UW CCS cases in Software given by usmle.
For Unstable cases use case A (pneumo thorax one)
Read the history in UW CCS and write oredrs as if you are doing it for UWCCS than as for actual pneumothorax.
Ofcourse patient won't get better forget about it , your aim should be to type all the orders and see how to adavnce clock and get results and to see how long it takes for each test.
Over all the aim is to familiarise wyourself with CCS software .
In the end pneumothorax pt will deteriorate
but You have gained experience in typing all the orders you want ,move the patient know when to see patient again.

thats a fantastic score..congrats...I ve a 99/99 on step one and two and i have just started preparing for step3. My prep is at a snails pace. I understand from your posts that u followed swanson's, washington manuel and usmle world. Here is my question???did u use washington manuel for reference or did u do it completely??? was it useful for the exam??I mean for the next best step questions?? etc..Please advise me as I'm planning on giving my exam in the first week of december.

read washington manual as a whole it's a small book isn't it and it is useful as it is all about management

Thanks bharatphoenix, I had the same q too about the washington manual.i will now read it thoroughly and not try to rush thro the prep as i had intended..coz the score matters ultimately right.

as far as i know score in step-3 does not matter u need to pass but its always safe to have a safety margin. Scores may matter but i strongly believe that they look at our overall application rather than just scores- which after all are variable depending on ur luck,mood , physical state etc.

Hi everybody
I was wondering how important step3 score is?I have my ECFMG certificate in hand .my step1&2 average score is 85, but I'd like to know high step 3 score could increase my chances for residancy?
