hey alejandlu, nice credentials. yah more interviews should be coming in. i wanted to put my exp under work as well. but in eras it strictly says work exp must be compensated experience and in electives you are not compensated. what is your opinion on this? do you think PDs will think you cant follow instructions. When i called a few places they said that they were not sure where to put the USCE. I have a couple of observerships too, should i put those under work exp also. Also how much of your usce was in surgery or surgical subspecialties? thank you.

I really do not know the correct answer to give you as far as the USCE goes, but I am almost 100% sure that the observership goes under the volunteer experience. As far as PD´s scrutinizing every move you make on ERAS....I tend to think they should have better things to do. But who knows. At any rate, the majority of my USCE was in general surg and pediatric surg. 6/10 months I would say. On a more somber note, I was not granted interviews at Oklahoma, Virginia commonwealth, nor Greenville in North Carolina. IMGphobic I guess. AMERICADOTCOM, I also applied to Loyola and they sent me an e-mail stating when their interview dates were and that they would be notifying by November 11. I feel it will not be so positive, but oh well.

Alejandu, how did you wind up doing so many months just in surgery? usually places only let you stay in there electives 1-3 months. you should get an interview where you rotated since you were there for so long.

Hey Alejandu, I know these places are really not IMG friendly.I received the similar response from Loyola.VCU said that they have many applicants(I guess many AMGS=Less qualified but eh AMG)so they cannot offer interviews.Anyways there are many more places but why dont they mention in the ERAS website NOT IMG FRIENDLY;so we dont have to waste the application and money.Anyways guys do not loose hope interviews are offered as late as Jan end.Let us keep the faith after all we all have the will to be good surgeons and so be it.Good luck.

Hey BHAGAT, I did already interview at the program at which I rotated through. It all looks really positive. However, I would hate to put all of my eggs in the same basket. I would really like to hear from some of the other programs I have applied to. Ideally from 5 more and I would be satisfied. But the name of this game is patience. As for AMERICADOTCOMS´comments, I agree. They should put how IMG friendly they are in order to save us money. Then again. the last thing these programs are thinking about is some IMG´s bank account or finances. Sound a little upset? you better believe I am. Patience is running thin. I´ll check up here later to see of there is any more news: Rejections vs. Interviews. SHARVIL: when are you going to Mayo? I also have Itvw there.

Just curious: What has been your guys experience with calling programs and asking them about your application. Anything positive? Negative? Anything? I feel like asking them what the deal is. I am growing inpatient with this whole thing and would like to know sooner than later...even if the answer is no!

I think you are right the patience is very important, and I am still waiting for good news. Keep posting and good luck to everybody.

hi americadotcom, loyola told me that they only have one fmg out of their 50 gen surg residents and that too a prelim year, so i did not apply there. so i would say dont hope too much from loyola. my tally now is 8 interviews 8 rejections and doc vivek dont use rejections, the word is very self depreciating, i would say regrets, i.e. the program regrets not taking you. and keep the spirit up ppl, the interview season has just begun, dont worry it will happen for all of us. all the best

Hello to everybody. Hey americandoc thanks for cong. I think it is a nice idea not to use rejections. It is really depressing. I have not heard from any program for the last 4-5 days. I have applied to 36 programs and had 6 regrets. I have a question for you foxs. What is the really diff. between categorical and preliminary. I mean I thought that preliminary is just for the ones who will not continue general surgery residency. Therefore I only applied for categorical positions. What about you? Can I apply to both preliminary and categorical and after 1 year training, change my status to categorical or re-apply for categorical positions. The info. is important fox. It will be great if you can answer..Take care and hope everybody hears good news. By now..

Hey sharvil, congratulations for the interviews. It is always better to get categorical but if you are interested in speciality surgery then prelim would be a nice idea. Most of the university programs give prelim spot to IMGs and keep the categorical ones for AMGs.This months has not been so fruitful.Recently got a decile from Thomas Jefferson,Virginia Mason and Vanderbuilt.I was wrongly informed that these places are IMG friendly.Guys have you had a chance to see the AMG website. They are loaded with interviews.Take a look at this Abington Memorial (PA) doctan UAB MS10, Smoke This, lilkidsurg, luckherm1, Ergo Albert Einstein, Bronx highball, happy puppet, alexrusso, ExtraCrispy, daisygirl, solstice118, MS10, merlin, rizz1431, robotsonic, goldie, poopsy Albert Einstein BI (NYC) doctan, AlexRusso, daisygirl, ExtraCrispy, MS10, rizz1431, robotsonic, goldie Albert Einstein, Phil chirish, drrouz, Blue Haze University of Arkansas fishmonger69, ThInKpInK Atlanta MC doctan, ThInKpInK U of AZ goldie, luckherm1 Basset Healthcare (Cooperstown, NY) ExtraCrispy Baylor - Ehi, there are a lot of programs that have already sent an invitation to the AMGs which I have applied to as well but didn't let me know my status yet!!! Do you think that silence means rejection at this point? That's so frustrating my God...
