Guys, I received an invitation from Baylor,Houston.I guess November will usher in good news.Keep this message post alive so we can understand the trends.MGH MA is not at all FMG friendly.unofficially from the Program director himself. So do not waste your money there even with 95+ scores.

Dear all, keep up the hope.Interviews are around the corner.I have 15 rejections one interview from Baylor, two wait listed programs and 2 unclear messages. Most of the other programs that I called up said that they will start offering interviews mid November after seeing the dean's letter for AMGs/IMGS.So do not loose hope.Interviews are around the corner.I know that medicine programs have offered lots of interviews without waiting for the dean's letter.Time will tell.Good luck.

Hi guys, I need to ask you something. I received an invitation for General Surgery Residency Program from GRADUATE HOSPITAL in Philadelphia. Does anybody of you know about this Program? It doesn't seem to bad (affiliated with Drexel University), but I didn't find a specific web page for the Department of Surgery like the most of the other Programs. Hope you can help me. Hear from you soon.

Two more rejections from University of Wisconsin and Good samaritan,Arizona.I guess University of Wisconsin is not fmg friendly.Does any IMG have an interview from them.I have not heard from programs in Floroda and Texas(apart from Baylor) wondering when they start givine out interviews.Kindly post your int/rej as well ;so all of us know which programs have started giving out invites and the trends.

yeah, sure. I think i wrote them but it seems that it wasnīt in this topic. They arenīt very good, as you can imagine by my number of rejections. 84-206 step 1 in 1st attempt/waiting score but i passed step 2CK/iīll do step 2CS next week/no USCE/1 US LOR. I need a visa. 1 month of observership in Mayo Clinic. 1 year of surgical experience like PGY1 in surgery residency in Mexico. I think my main enemy this match will be that iīll be certified until January or Febrary even. Are you applying to surgery obgal2005?? Americadotcom: Baylor has rejected me, maybe they have started giving interviews as well, i guess.

Yes, I am applying for surgery too. And until now only rejections for me... I think your overall credentials are pretty strong. Scores are not the only criteria..I am sure you will hear from more in the next week. Good luck!

Hey Chemamr, Just hang on.The Program Directors do see the complete application before making a decision. The smaller community programs only look at the scores;other mistake that we as IMGS make is that the personal statement is same for community and university programs. In the sense the university programs prefer people with either a background in research or an interest in academic/clinical research along with solid clinical skills. However the community programs feel mocked with personal statements mentioning ideas of pursuing academic research. The big programs Mass General Hospital,Boston,Brighams,Wisconsin,Arizona etc are not FMG friendly. Please keep in mind I am just commenting on the surgical programs.Anyways good luck to all.

Hey guys, Iīm new to this forum and ahve been reading the IM forum for some time now. It is pretty disheartening to listen to all the interview offers they get, yet I hear nothing about surgery. Here is my deal. I am a Foreign med student who completed 10 months of USCE. Have U.S. LORīs and decent board scores with CS passed. I am applying for a categorical surgery position and have gotten categorical interviews from HCMC in Minnesota, U of New Mexico, and U of Ill at Chicago. I have also gotten prelim interview for Mayo in Rochester and 2 wait list schools (which for all intents and purposes is a nice rejection). I also have gotten 7 rejections. Mostly from Southern, hardcore, anti-IMG schools (why I applied to them I donīt know). I have also applied to Baylor and Florida Schools and other than the ones I have mentioned, have not heard from anyone else. I hope the interviews keep coming. I will keep posting. Keep me up with whatīs going on

Hello to everybody. I am an IMG who is a permanent resident. First thanks for opening surgery residency application forum, it is very good idea. My scores are 80 on Step1, 90 on Step2 and waiting for Step2 CS result. I had one month clinical experience. I know my grades are not very high but I want to go into surgery so I applied. I applied 34 programs so far and got 1 rejection. No news from other programs. As I read the replies at this forum I became more aware of the fact that this match will be very difficult for us. Good luck to everybody..I will write if I got news..

hey ALEJANDLU congrats finally some positive results, i'm applying for surgery next yr. i am currently doing rotations in the US. i have two questions 1. is your 10 months usce observerships or electives? 2. where did you put your usce on eras: work exp? or volunteer exp? what are your scores because it seems like your scores are not playing as much of a role as your usce in terms of you getting interviews in cat surg. do you need a visa? thanks and good luck to yall.

BHAGAT, My USCE was done in an elective setting, not an observership. It was through an agreement my school has with a hospital in Minneapolis. I put my USCE in work experience, since it was not exactly a volunteer rotation. I do not need a visa and my scores are 221/229. I shyed away from applying to big academic programs since it is not really my thing, I just hope the rest of the programs I applied to see the same thing the programs that have offered me an interview did. Good luck to you next year when applying to programs.

Hi There, Keep up the hope.Interviews are on the way for us IMGS.The interviews have dried up this year since the CSA results were delayed last year so lots of people had applied earlier on this September. For surgery though the interviews shall start coming in from second week of November onwards.Let us keep posting on this post.Guys anyone heard from the following programs Thomas Jefferson,PA Northwestern University,IL Loyola University Emory University,GA BIDMC,MA Johns Hopkins,MD(I guess they have run out of interview dates till Feb,2006) I have been in touch with AMGs and it seems that they have started getting interviews from these programs.I guess these programs mostly offer interviews to AMGs.I did apply to these programs as well mybe they will yield a few more interviews.
