Hello! What I wanna know is that now after I've got the visitor visa [a multi entry] how long would be the duration of stay in the USA?? I suppose the interview season ends by Jan end. Even though my scores are good, for an IMG there is always a significant chance of failing to match. I am applying for IM. Is it MANDATORY that I be present in the USA during the match days. Coz if I don't match, i'll be too late for the scramble. Next, if I match , is it required that I be present in the US during the J1/H1B procedure? Next, Although the residency starts on Jly 1st, i think one has to go a little sooner coz the orientation programs and stuff.... So, in short my question is - Is there a scope to return to home country before the residency actually begins??

plenty of my schoolmates matched during their final year. they werent required to be in the states during J1 application. i am not sure about H1b although i think you should be able to coordinate it from whichever country if you have a fax machine. i dont know about scramble cause no one i know has every had to go thru that. take care

Most of the program directors understand that H1 visa processing takes time so they intend to give a pre match. Now with the H1 expidited visa processing the visa formalities are taken care of in 2 weeks. However if you have to wait till the match then also you can be done with H1 visa processing by March 31.I would suggest taking a prematch.Anyways good luck.
