I have a simple question. When do we must do CAGE questions?, in all the persons they tell us they drink alcohol?, my question is if there is like a cut off point, like a limit to do or not to do these questions?.

for example: >3 drinks per week? or what? i´m a bit lost here rolling eyes

this because we can save time according to the response to my question.

good question!

I would ask the CAGE questions if 1-they have a drink a day (which many people do : wine with dinner) or 2- if a total of more than 3 drinks a week (drinks only the weekend)

Also ask if their alcohol consumption has increased recently, because you may have a case of a woman who didnt drink at all but now she is depressed so now she is drinking a little, even if it may not be a lot, it is important to consider.

hope it helps

I think the matter is not how much but if it became an abuse?
A patient can drink. Does he abuse?
CAGE to detect alcohol abuse if you suspect one.

I think it depends on the case and on ur suspect. If it is a case of vaginal discharge and the pt drinks twice a week, you can skip the cage. if it is a case of fatigue with the same amount of alcohol (twice a week) I would ask the cage anyway for 2 reasons : 1 possible depression can b associated to alcoholism, 2 alcoholics always underestimate their drinking levels.

one question: in a case of hypertension follow-up. should we measure the BP?

No need to measure BP. But do funduscopic examination!!! And ask questions about heart and renal function.
