I applied Neurology at SF match already. Not sure if I can get anything. Now I am applying IM through ERAS. My question is if I apply BOTH Preliminary AND categorical for the same program/hospital, will that decrease my chance to get any of them. I am afraid that applying to both would make PD think I do not really want a categorical position, since I may leave after one year. I noticed for most IM programs, the PD is the same person for both preliminary and categorical. If that is OK to apply both, should I have separate Personal Statement for either Preliminary or categorical? Generally speaking, if I just want a position in IM, no matter what, should I apply both preliminary & categorical, or just one of them. Thanks a lot
