i copied this from another forum. i think it may be useful. help!! I have a dilemna. I got 209/85 on step 1. i have yet to take step 2 and i feel i will not be prepared for atleast 6 weeks. when is the most ideal time to take step 2 and how do i best balance the following dilemna: a high late score vs. a low punctual score. I want to get the most interview possible. I applied to 125 psychiatry programs and i do want to get the best one possible. right now i am half way thru the videos and i still have to do qbank and usmle world which would take more than a month. one thing i like to do b4 the exam is to take those diagnostic exams to see my level and take it accordingly. anyways is there a certian graph or guideline on how to balance this dilemna? also i plan on taking the the kaplan CS course in late november so i have to take this in account as well. let me add this ?. i feel the answer should be made a sticky. a lot of people r asking the same ?. 1) To get a decent ammount of intereviews what scores need to be turned in and when? 2) When is the latest we should take step 1 and 2 ck and step 2 cs to be in the 2006 match? i have wasted the last hour for answers to these ?s. pleez help!!!!! and the following is my own personal question. I am gonna take step 2 ck early nov and cs in dec 6. got 85/209 in step 1. i applied to 125 programs in psych. what r my chances???

Interviews are starting now and the rank order list goes in in mid-February. That means that you will start interviewing without an ECFMG certificate. If you do not have a certificate by rank order list day, it will significantly impact programs' ability to rank you. How could they rank you if they are unsure that you will be certified to start in July. I would take it as soon as you can and feel comfortable doing it but certainly NO LATER THAN mid December so that your score and ECFMG certificate will be ready by rank order list day. am sorry but i think i forgot to mention which step 2 i meant. i keep forgetting they renamed the csa to step 2 cs. anyways i am takin the following: 1) Step 2 CK on nov 15 (it takes about 3 weeks for the score. nov 15 is on a tuesday and scores come out wednesday i am guessing it will come out in less than 3 weeks.) My question regarding this is it better to get a good score or turn it in early. I bet there is some kind of bell curve graph that may explain this. 2) Step 2 CS on dec 6. (they recommend u take it no later than dec 31. is 3 weeks enuff time to be 100% sure i will get the score back.) well that was from another forum. i thought u fellows could gimme some feedback.

Hi sga 430 I'm going throught the same situation you had last year.... I'm quite lost and starting to loose motivation... I passed step 1 with 79... passed the CS and now my big dilema: should I rush to take the CK so I can apply to the match or should I study better to score higher?? I have done only 25% of the videos and no questions yet. Will probably pay the usmle world today... I just can't stand the idea of wasting another year... even though I could get some work on research or more letter etc... I heard some people even apply directly to the hospitals after the match is over and they still get in a residency ( I want internal med) Please let me know what did you do, how did it go.... a little help!

Yep. I'll miss the match... right now studying lots for the CK and looking around for observership and research opportunities around the area... That's it. Better loose a year than do things right.aajkal wrote: scores are the most imp determining factor for interviews. now u decide what's best for u.
