growth hormone acts on liver and other tissues and causes an increase production and release of somatomedins. somatomedins in turn acts on the anterior pitutary and the hypothalamus to control the release of growth hormone.

This a gray area many but not all effects of GH are mediated by another hormone called Somatomedin C (insulin-like growth factor type1)(IGF-1) Somatomedin is made by liver and other organs in response to GH,it feeds back to pit. and suppresses GH levels. Somatomedin has longer half life then GH and can be use in diagnosing growth abnormalities. in children and adults GH can affect protein synthesis and nitogen balance ,etc. Hope this helps
