Hello bbb, I have a major problem. I finished all my application process in early september. At that time i did not have any US clinical experience and my profile shows that. But after that i got to do externship for the past two months. I am also selected for observership in a hospital for the next month. My profile on eras regarding the work experience cannot be changed in any way.All I can do to the application is that I can change the ECFMG certification status and add more LOR. I can get the LOR onlY by the end of october for the the externship. For the observership, even if I get the LOR, it will be by the end of November which will be very late. When I got a couple of rejections, i was worried thinking if it was due to my lack of any US clinical experience in the application which I actually have now. Please give me some advise regarding how I can use the clinical experience I am getting now to improve my chances of getting Interviews. Thank you very much, waiting for your reply.

I'm quite positive abou this, but us exp, cannot go under work experience, since you are not paid for it. try to put it in volunteer experience if you can. if you have done 2 months of electives, then an extra observership may not really help too much, unless you need that extra us lor. what field did you apply to?

I dont think a salary is required for an experience to be classified as "work". It says in the instructions that any type of clinical experience should be classified under "work experience"...

for experience to be classified as work on eras, compensation is required. where did you see that any clincal exp goes under work exp? if you were not compensted, the exp goes under volunteer, or it doesnt go under anywhere. i talk to ersa myself.

I was trying to access ERAS to see myself...unfortunately I've already submitted my CAF and I have no access to that page anymore. If I remember correctly, it is on the "Experience" page, right under the bar where you choose between "Work experience/Volunteer experience"... it's a paragraph of instructions there. Something about work being any sort of clinical experience... Sorry I cant be specific, but I dont remember anything there stating that compensation is required for it to be classified as work either. Anyone out there with access to the "experience" page of ERAS, could you help clear this up?

go to eras home page, go to APPLICATION PAGE, then go to page 5 experience: "work experience refers to any employment for which you were compensted" this is a quote from the eras web site. I'm stumped as well because I have usce and do not know exactly where to put it, so that PD's can see it. anyone have an opinion? i wanted to put it under work as well, but this is incorrect, because i heard the volunteer category is not considered as important.

if you do that, it looks like you cant follow simple instructions, dont you think? Also how do you know if a PD will be offended or not? PD's may think this guy cant even follow clear directions. all i'm saying, thats what it says, black and white. it is clearly stated. i wish i could put it under "work" as i also have usce.

hey chivasregal congrats thats awesome, what field? credentials if you dont mind me askin? do you think your observerhsip helped you get all those interviews? or was it other factors? i have done electives and a few observerships, honors clinical grades in a couple of electives, are you saying i can add these electives and observerships under work exp? i am applying next yr. that would really help, since the volunteer section may be looked over. thanks and good luck on the interviews.

thanks for the advice, this usce thing is a real issue about where to put it. well there must be something in your application, that is seperating you from other img with double 99's. 19 interviews, older grad too, thats great. yah im preparing for next yr in advance, seems like the competition is getting crazy out there. ive noticed alot of double 99's not getting as many interviews though, i wonder what it is... possibly scores are not as imp as before. well thanks for the prompt reply, we are both online at the same time it seems. do you ever go on chat?
