Hi everyone! Im confused. I'm an IMG from the Phils class of 2002. The Medical board of California is asking me to do an extra 2 weeks in psychiatry and 4 weeks in any elective before they can give me a CA letter WITH NO DEFICIENCIES. They told me I could try contacting local hospitals if they would take me, or I could return to my medical school and do my remedials there. I was perfectly fine with the idea, rules are rules right? However, none of the local hospitals would take me for a lot of reasons--mainly that they simply do not have provisions for IMGs doing remedial rotations in their hospital. Then, my medical school is hesitant to take me because they said that technically, they are no longer responsible for their students once they graduate. They are apprehensive of the legal implications of taking on someone who has no accountability with the institution any more. I understand their point, a graduate simply cant go back to school to fill deficiencies... What am I supposed to do?! Anyone out there who has gone through these REMEDIAL ROTATIONS for the California Board of Medicine? I'd appreciate any suggestions as to hospitals that are willing to take on IMGs for this purpose.

During my 4th year in med school, we had a total of 2 weeks psych rotation, equivalent to 40 hours per week. SInce graduates from the Philippines need to undergo another 1 yr rotating internship prior to taking the local boards, I again had another 2 weeks of psychiatry, but in that institution, I had 80 hours per week. I mentioned this to the Medical Board of California but they said my 5th year internship is only "for completion" and doesnt really count for much, unless it was done in one of the 13 hospitals that was accredited for internship by the board. She was nice enough though to give me 18 hours credit for electives for my internship. I did ask how many hours each week was worth, and she said it was 32 hours per week. I explained that in my medical school, we had the option of going on full day/night duty equivalent to 36 hours every 3 days. That definitely will not add up to 32 hours per week. So she said it is equivalent either way, as long as I finish a total of 2 weeks or 64 hours, whichever is the case.
